Hyped over GW2 and can't wait for the release date so now I have MMO fever...problem is all my funds are being spent on going to back to my dreaded University so now I'm technically broke. So can you guys recommend me some good F2P mmo games?

Preferably ones that DONT sell power (Thanks Extra Credits!)

Lord of the Rings Online is free-to-play now, and so is Dungeons & Dragons Online, both games are made by Turbine, one of them even made half-competently.

I second D&D Online. Only MMORPG that could keep me playing besides WoW mostly because it is different than WoW.

Personally? I like Fiesta. Light-hearted, good but simple mechanics, and the last time I checked, it had a good community.
It isn't that deep- just a few crafting, five classes, etc. But the gameplay is solid.
And unlike most games, the healer classes are healer/tanks instead of the usual healer/mage scenario.

I can just list out the free online games I got on my comp:

Vindictus (hack n slash fun)
Dungeon Fighter Online (arcade style gameplay)
Mabinogi (good ole fashion rpg)
Pandora Saga (another good ole fashion rpg)

I would also recommend SMT Imagine, although my current comp can't handle it, and I kinda lost interest in it months ago

Lord of the Rings: Online
Dungeons and Dragons Online
Age of Conan

All of these have been made F2P and I've been told are pretty decent. I'm thinking about checking out LOTRO.

DDO is probably the best free MMO ive played, and i say that from the standpoint of a TR'd Fighter(hit level cap and reincarnated to replay through the game), mostly because it doesnt have those annoying "kill this many enemies" or "find this many items" very often after you hit level 5.

There is the original Guild Wars. It's not as awesome as GW2, but it's well worth a play. The initial investment is far smaller now, with the Complete Collection (containing all four expansions) retailing around $40-$60 USD. (plus bonus treasure in GW2!) As always, no sub fees.

Lord of the Rings Online recently went F2P, and it's not too bad. There are a lot of restrictions on the F2P version though...

I hear Vindictus is pretty good, but I know little about it.

Extra Credits mentioned the free online game Echo Bazaar. Haven't played it, but they said it was a pretty unique experience.

Problem is that the GW user-base (from what I've seen recently, at least) is almost entirely dead.

OT: Hmm... I'd say go with D&D Online or maybe BSG Online. Both are good.

You think so? I'm always running into new players and picking up PUGs. Plus the European servers are often full of RP players, especially around Lion's Arch. They're always good for some fun. Maybe you need a new/better Guild... or some new friends [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Guild-Wars]. (heh) Also, the PvP games/tournaments are still thriving. That was one of GW's major draws, apparently.

OT: Tried Vindictus... pretty cool. Didn't really grab me though. Then again, neither did World of Warcraft, so... take from that what you will.

Whatever you do, stay the F away from Aeria Games. Tried a free-to-play POS called "Last Chaos", and I overpaid. It's like something Zynga made, only without Facebook and in choppy 3D.

I was addicted to an MMORPG named Tibia for a few years. It's free, but you have the option to pay and get extras.

Pretty much all of the AAA games have gone F2P now, or they are working on the transition.

Really, almost all of them.

You could quite literally try them all and see what suits you.

I really don't have better advice than that.
