Good game, awful ending

What game have you played that you loved all the way up until the awful, waste of time finale?

For me it was borderlands. I really couldn't care less about lack of story, i loved getting guns and raiding old Haven and shooting crimson lance. But i made the connection of "opening Pandora's box" before i left the starting area. Might the vault contain a horrible demon thing you should never unleash? on paper, yes. But in the face of my godlike weaponry, and i still dont understand, nor have i got the correct mix of stat disruption and damage right again, he fell in under 7 seconds to me, my first time playing him. What literally happened was that there was that little cut scene, or there wasnt, who cares, and i was all of a sudden fighting this big mouth. I lob grenades and shoot it in the teeth for a second, trying to find the weak point, and then another cutscene, and the game credits...

and i was shocked. my semi drunk friends actually asked me what had happened. no one actually caught the fight. all this mediocre gun play, all this time switching out weapons for something as nonthreatening as a giant ass mouth?!?!

Borderlands. I liked it, i hated it so much. What about you guys?

Assassin's Creed 2 wasn't bad, but terribly mind-fucking.

Also, I thought Bioshock 2 had an incredibly lackluster ending.

The Legend of Zelda: twilight princess felt like it hsould have been about a dungeon or two longer.

It's not the ending that matters, but the road you take to get there.

But yeah, AC2's ending was pretty fucking horrible. I hate that prick of a Desmond.

"OK, we've gone through a whole game involving Assassins, Templars and the like.

Let's throw a race that created humans, a war with them, and some weird crap in the last five minutes just in order to confuse everyone." - Ubisoft

That's about the gist of it. I wonder how they'll top that in the next one.

I'm voting for Halflife. Zen sucked something fierce. Timed platforming in a first person perspective whilst enemies spawn just to knock you off? Not my idea of a good time. Also Fallout 3 without Broken Steel is major wall-banger.

I didn't think the ending sucked so badly, but my friends sure did:
Fahrenheit, also known as Indigo Prophecy

But then there's Death Note. That ending left me mute, depressed, frustrated, angry, wondering and emo for the next 40-or-so hours.

Maybe that was one of the feelings many 'emos' enjoy. ('Cause it sure felt good in it's own way.)

Halo 2.

Yeah, easy to near impossible bosses and cliffhangers suck.
This. Seriously, my friend and I played it all the way through on launch day, and we were fucking PISSED! Borderlands rates up there, as does Fallout 3 pre-DLC.

@ TheNamlessGuy

I disagree about Death Note, but I agree that animes VERY VERY often will be good until the last episode where the writers have no idea how to end it and either kill everyone or mindfuck you to death.

Games?

Halo 3, perhaps.
Or ODST. Last stage blew the entire feel of the game.

And for animes?

Death Note
Code Geass
Was it the ending of season 1 or 2 of code geass that you didn't like? I ask because I thought the ending of season 2 was tremendous and season 1's was kind of a cliffhanger.

The ending of Death Note is one of the best I've seen. Season 1 that is, the whole second season should never have been made. Just stale characters and stupid plot twists.

I'm going to have to go with Half-Life.

It's an absolutely brilliant game and its reputation as a gaming classic is well deserved, but the Xen sections [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/XenSyndrome] were just not fun to play at all.
