From the writer of Planescape: Torment I would expect no less, but really, it beats the crap out of the original game in every respect when it comes to storyline and writing, even if it lacks the major twist of the first game. Oh, and did I mention that The Sith Lords is also a much deeper game, with more side-quests, much more balanced difficulty and character customisation, a better weapon upgrading and creation system, more use for skills like Security and Persuade, etc.?

The only reason, the only reason everyone things that the first Knights of the Old Republic is better than the second is because a) it is a nostalgia trip and movie fan service, and b) because it is made by BioWare, and people have a tendency to worship BioWare on name alone (not that they don't deserve a lot of this praise).
I'd say it had the potential to beat the shit out of the first KOTOR, but the lack of time Obsidian had with the game shows.

Much more balanced difficulty? If anything, it's easier than the first KOTOR. In the first game, there were a couple places where I had to improvise a bit since I couldn't just mash the strongest attack, but with the sequel? The only time I had to do that was with the main boss. More uses for skills? Didn't feel any different from the original KOTOR and the first character I try to create is always a smooth operator. And in the end, those added fighting styles really did nothing.

I partly agree about the plot (it's less cliche, yes), but in a sense, the whole crux of the Star Wars universe is the classic battle between good and evil. But then the plot in KOTOR2 is almost completely detached from the universe and even the game itself. The plot itself? After you get to a certain point, it basically just warps you from place to place and the ending is basically an incoherent mess.

I'm totally going to replay it once the cut stuff is put back in, though. [http://www.team-gizka.org/] They seem to have put more work into it than Obsidian had time to with the actual game (thanks to Lucasarts and Episode III), and the guys doing that upgrade seem methodical about it, so I'm expecting good things.

In the end, Obsidian did do everything better than Bioware with their sequel to NWN (and its expansions).

gotta go with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and CoD World at War. I mean, if you're going to completely plagiarize someone else's work, you should A. not dumb it down and B. not add your own "improvements" (i.e. cover the entire experience in a thin film of muck.

Halo 3, to me, reeked more then Halo 2. At least in Halo 2, we get another side of the story, the dual weapons and hyjackable vechiles game mechanic is original, and the Brutes are tougher...

I, for one, liked Prince of Persia: Warrior Withen for the some of the exact reasons some people condemn it...That being: the music(I am a fan of rock music, so this never bothered me), the Prince's character (If you're being chased by a time guardian that is all but indestrucable, you'd become angry, serious, and selfish too), and the story (Which was a bit of a step up from Sands of Time). The only flaw I think the game had was the confusing back-tracking...Going back and forth from the ruined castle in the present, to the castle in its prime does get confusing.

Oh my god... that part was terrible, what were they thinking. Although the scene that really took the biscuit was the mountain spring bath scene. I got to that point when my brother was sat watching what I was playing, I've never felt like more of a dirty pervert than then...

Lousy sequels to good games. I don't think I could ever get up from my computer if i finished the list.

Personally, Metal Gear Solid 2 is up there. Draw you in with a demo where you play as Snake to find out during the game that you are playing as the whiny Raiden for the rest. And the plot line was just idiotic. And the 65 minutes of cuts scenes surrounding the 30 seconds of swordplay at the end was utterly BORING!!!!!!!

Oh... and honourable mention goes to Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. Ubisoft Shanghai has got to stop making inferior versions of Ubisoft Montreal's magnificence. This was the reason that Double Agent was much better on Xbox than on Xbox 360.

*sigh* Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.....will there ever be a true sequel? Or at least a new game based on a similar plot? One can hope...one can hope..

I'm not a MOO player, but my brother is. He was absolutely gutted by that game.

For me: all of the Quest For Glory games after Trial By Fire, Might and Magic III ( I loved the second game to death, played it constantly through Junior High), and Dues Ex: Invisible War.

The combat system was only crap if you don't have any taste. It's just not mindless button mashing, you actually have to plan your fights and such. It's alright no ones perfect and you'll live on. How? One day at a time I guess.

On to the topic at hand, Donkey Kong Country 3 falls a bit short of Donkey Kong Country 2.

Monkey Island 4. That totally sucked, compared to the first 3 games.

Settlers - Heritage of kings (was it number 5?). Anyway, it wasn't good.

X-Com Enforcer. I really don't want to go into that one. Interceptor was gold compared to that.

Baldur's Gate 2 - Shado... no I can't make that joke with a straight face. Sorry.

i thought that the crash Bandicoot games were amazing up until after crash team racing the same with the Spyro the dragon series was good until the what fourth game the one that was not for the Play station
