"Majesty: A Fantasy Kingdom Sim" was awesome. Its sequel fills me with the deepest hatred and rage.
*nods* though it did have some good ideas that would've made it a great game if they'd kept anything that drew people the majesty in the first place intact.

OP: either that or fallout 2, or Deus Ex
Yeah I don't know where they went wrong with Deus Ex 2. It was still ok, but VERY short and just didn't grab me as much as the first one.

Perhaps not the absolute worst sequel, but it sure as hell wasn't even close to the original. I'm talking about KOTOR 2, of course.
Believe it or not, I hear some people think that the game was actually better than the first.

*shudder*
Kotor was perfect Kotor 2 was good.
God guys... I'm going to go play Kotor now. It's like talking about food. Like chicken. KFC. Anybody want eat some KFC now? The nice hot steamy chicken fillet on the soft bun... shit I want KFC myself now D=

Deus ex 2, Supreme commander 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I disagree with an earlier post that called it a more polished expansion of the first game. I enjoyed playing through 1 for a 4th time much more than playing the second one for the first time. And it added serious issues the first game did not have (in order not to have the screen stutter like crazy, I had to dig deep into windows and change an audio setting. If I kept the only setting that worked in Vegas 2, every other game had ugly sounds. Why in heavens name was it needed to change this Ubisoft). And of course, it was sold full price (I waited for a steam sale of course).

mercinaries 2
mercinaries 1 was a lot of fun, and then Pandemic dicided to begin to die inside.

Maybe not the worst sequel, but the sequel to to Tales of Symphonia was pretty bad compared to the original.

Being totally original and saying FFX-2.
There was a chance to maybe make a good game to go along with FFX.
(Would totally have played a prequel.)
But they screwed up. Big time.
My biggest pet peeve about it, besides the characters acting like they were on happy pills, was the mini-game with Leblanc.

Urgh. I still have nightmares about it. I apologised to Seymour I felt so bad about the whole thing.

KOTOR 2 was awful, just awful.

KOTOR is my favorite game.
Both games are very similar.
If 1 has shitty gameplay, then 2 has shitty gameplay.
It's not awful because of the gameplay.

2 is cut to bits, has one of the worst endings ever, is bug-ridden and looks worse than the first game.
So the ending was bad and the gfx were meh (though I judge the gfx are comparable to the 1st and mostly copy/pasted from K1 anyway).
The only bug I ever encountered in K2 was the Telos academy dialogue bug that skipped the encounter with Atris and got you stuck. Bad, but hardly worst-sequel-ever-made material.

On the up side and apart from the ending, I think the story and dialogues were less bad than the original.
Which is worse: a story with a rushed ending or a worse story overal?

I don't really care. Gameplay is mediocre in both and the rest is close, which to me makes it a mediocre sequel to a mediocre original in my book.
The plot is incoherent in a number of places and of the major quests in the game is cut halfway through (the HK factory) with no indication that you can't get any further.

KotOR has a simpler plot, but it handles it with finesse and is widely considered to have one of the best twists in gaming.

KotOR 2's twist is ruined in the menu screen, and hinted at with the subtly of a jackhammer. I.e. Kreia is going to betray you. (Kind of).
Probably because it wasn't meant to be a twist.

I'm one of those people. It's also my favorite game of all time. Kreia is the best written character in video game history.

If that was a shudder, maybe I just gave you a seizure? I kind of hope so.

.... ... .. ..... ..

(And no, maybe not a twist as such but it was certainly an important turn in the story handled with the subtlety of a big, black, vibrating dildo. Ahem. I will agree, however, that Kreia is a very interesting character. She's no Jolee Bindo though!)

I'm going to have to agree with these folk. Granted, I played Merc 1 on xbawks and a port of Mercs 2 on PC (with a controller), but the sequel was so broken it was barely playable. And then came the announcement that they developer was not going to patch. At all.

well the biggest gap in quality between a game and it's sequel would be Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal
if Ratchet and Clank Going Commando was a 10
Ratchet and Clank UYA was a 4

but the worst game I've ever played that happened to be a sequel was Grand Theft Auto 4
If the GTA series is a 5 with Vice city at a 7
GTA 4 is charitably sitting on a 2
Why exactly would you say that Up Your Arsenal was bad? For me, it was better, or at the very least equal to the previous games. The series went downhill after UYA.
I guess It was personal disappointment more than poor quality.
when I played R&C1 it was amazing
then R&C 2 was nearly perfect
then UYA was bad
it was the first game that ever did that to me

but why was UYA bad?

the gun choices weren't as varied as the other R&C games. 20 weapons with 8 upgrades made it feel like a grind, especially because it was a shorter story campaign.
the fire fights all felt the same no matter which gun I was using
the boss fights were all huge let downs
it was a victim of the "having online multyplayer lets up skimp on content" school of thought.
even the humor and the story line wasn't as good

it was still mostly unchanged but it wasn't fun anymore
then when Deadlock came out I wasn't touching the series anymore
I caught a glimpse of a friend playing Deadlock and my thought was "that looks boring, what are you playing?"

It's not like R&C2 had that many weapons. A good percentage of them were from R&C1 anyway. The original had the least weapons and that was still fun. Grinding was entirely up to you. If anything, I'd recommend not grinding, because then the game poses a decent challenge without feeling overwhelming.

As for the story, I was severely impressed by it. I can't say I remember specific moments from the game so I can't vouch for the humour. But the approach it took was definitely as interesting as the previous games. The way I see it, all the R&C games had a hint of self-parody about them. Everything that's done within the context of the game felt like it was secretly making fun of or pointing out the flawed logic of event in real life. It approached issues like propaganda, submission, racism, all that stuff. Of course they were always cartoony and light-hearted so people probably didn't notice. But I'm pretty sure all of it was intentional. Ted Price is an intelligent man. Just think about this: "Courtney Gears". Sound familiar? Perhaps similar to a certain celebrity?

I wouldn't say it subscribed to the school of thought that having multiplayer excuses singleplayer, at least not in the same way games these days do. The PS2 was never a multiplayer centric console to begin with. I've never gone online on any PS2 game, and that's true for a lot of other people as well. Besides it was extremely cheap when it launched (I got for like 30? in 2006), so I wouldn't say my expectations were sky high, but I wasn't disappointed with what I got.

R&C 2's weapons all felt different R&C 3's weapons all felt the same.
all the weapons feeling the same made all the fights feel the same. it just got to repetitive for me.
and you could upgrade all the R&C 2 weapons by playing normally
and upgrading all the UYA weapons felt like a chore. and since there were so many upgrades they didn't feel different between each upgrade.

R&C 1 and 2 had sort of silly humor to them that I just didn't feel in UYA. UYA felt too serious to me. It certainly had it's moments but on the whole it was sort of a downer, and the ending was too heroic for a Ratchet and Clank game. if I recall correctly.

I don't think that was Insomniac's intention but they must have phoned something in to squeeze in that multyplayer. but you have to understand this was among the first games I ever played, and the first that ever "let me down"

after playing Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank and thinking they were awesome
then playing Jak 2 and R & C going commando and thinking they were perfect
then playing UYA and it sucked and Jak 3 and it was...ok
It broke my naive little heart, and I can never trust a sequel again.
Except for Mass Effect 3 that's going to be the best game ever.......

I rather enjoyed X-2...at least for the combat system.

Perfect Dark: Zero

While more of a 'prequel', the game was total trash.

Eh, KOTOR 2 was okay, although I do think that the atmosphere and environments were way better in the first game, partly cause everything is grayish brown in the sequel :p
