Good game with the WORST sequel

Final Fantasy X's Sequel, Final Fantasy X-2.

OK, I don't even like Final Fantasy X very much, but this is absolutely true. This "wins the thread". X-2 is such a freakish nightmare of a.. thing. I don't think there's any better example of sucky sequel-age.

(but, from my own head, uh... Suikoden 4.)

Supreme Commander. A fantastic game, consolised and ruined in the 2nd.

Thank you - though I wouldn't have said "consolised" so much as "dumbed down for the lowest common denominator".

I was looking forward to that game, really looking forward to it. And then... well, let down is a nice way of putting it. It's good looking, it still chews through computer hardware, it has big stuff that goes bang, but no balance, no resource balancing, no tech trees, no skill required!

Of course, that's hyperbole, but you get my gist...

KOTOR 2 was awful, just awful.

KOTOR is my favorite game.

Both games are very similar.
If 1 has shitty gameplay, then 2 has shitty gameplay.

blitzkrieg 2, the first was great fun but they messed with the way the game works.

I did like number 2, but what they added was just not worth what they took.

Perhaps not the absolute worst sequel, but it sure as hell wasn't even close to the original. I'm talking about KOTOR 2, of course.

Believe it or not, I hear some people think that the game was actually better than the first.

I actually in a few areas I found it better gameplay than the first. But the story, while not bad, wasn't Bioware though that can be said for a lot of games and that the game (I think) was release not completed/had parts cut off.

I knew KOTOR would come up in this thread though ^_^

Mine would probably have to be GTA4 or MW2.

SSX On Tour.

After the excellence that was SSX 3 they thought it would be fun to remove the non-linear mountain which let you pick and choose which races, trick contests you wished to participate in. Removed all of the exploration aspects, because finding the highest point to jump off and sticking the landing wasn't at all fun.

Instead it left what essentially amounts to the BIG Challenge mode from SSX 3. Which wasn't even that good to begin with. That's it.


I hate that game.... so very much!

Sonic Heroes was an ok game despite lazy level design. I thought this would be the low point of the series... then Shadow the Hedgehog came out... and to make it worse, Sonic 06 came out after it... *sigh*

The story is ass and the characters are grating as hell, but the combat system was pretty solid. It was dressed up in that horrific "Dress Sphere" system, but having different classes which you could hot swap between as well as improve in various ways of your choosing worked damn well.

It's just a shame the story/writing was so very incredibly awful.

I've said it many a time: Wild Arms 4,because Likable Characters, a cool setting and creative puzzles are for losers. God I hate this game.

Seconded, the final fantasy old school job system is my favorite RPG system of all time, and I shed a single tear every time I see a straight RPG that doesn't use it.

I'm hesistant to say it, but Dawn of War 2 was for me, not nearly as good as the original.

It still had merit I suppose, but it utterly bored me, where the first was fantastic fun.

Heh, I just purchased DoW 2 on Steam last night because I enjoyed the demo. Didn't play the first one though, so hopefully it won't ruin my play through.

And as for worst sequel? Far cry 2. I was expecting another sci-fi game in an awesome open world, but instead was very dissapointed.

Wow, no one used this as another excuse to rage about Left 4 Dead 2? I'm amazed!

Personally, I'll say NeverWinter Nights. Played the first game so, so much and loved it to death. Second game.. the bloody gameplay and engine just screwed it up. Plus the story was boring as fuck. Mask of the Betrayer was pretty cool, so I finished that, but never the original NWN2. Shame on you, Obsidian. ):

Every Final Fantasy game after...oh wait, they all suck.
Anyways, I gotta give it to all the Pokemon games after Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Though the worst out of those is a tie between Diamond and Pearl.
I played Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, and I thought, "Can't get any worse than this!"
Damned optimism...

What about the pokémon games has gotten worse though? The only thing that changes is they introduce a batch of new pokémon which people aren't familiar with. Everything else just seems to get polished and improved.

I mean is it just 'I don't like the new pokémon they added', or is it something else that I'm missing?
