first off sorry if i spelt that wrong!

but anyway... im getting a fairly good gaming rig pretty soon and was hoping to really get a great scope of the world of pc gaming and i am on the hunt for some great pc titles. now i know ive opened up a can of worms by asking this one but i thought i'd be worth asking anyway. and hey, what better community to ask the The Escapist's? now dont get me wrong in not a total noob and i've already layed down my foundations by buying the Vavle Complete Pack during the summer sale so i have some of the seemingly must haves (Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike, Half Life, Portal, the Left For Dead(s), that kinda thing) and also Tarraria. also im on my way to getting the Crysis (1) Maximum edition, Crysis 2, Super Meat Boy, Killing Floor, Audio Surf and Amnesia when i have the founds together. and i was wondering if there are any other titles i should get? id love for someone to stumble me apon an awesome indie game.. but if not i'd love some solid titles under my keys...

massive thanks to anyone who helps!

If you Like TF2 multiplayer gameplay and are a fan of swords, I'd say get Mount And Blade: Warband. It also has a Kick A single Player Campaign.

firstly all those games you mentioned are awesome, but super meat boy will probably make you want to kick a puppy with anger, its awesome but frustrating

also i would have to agree with the guy above me

that game is extremely fun

games that i would recommend include:

- Any of the Total War Games (Shogun 2 and Rome are my favourites)

- Oblivion

- Fallout 3 and New Vegas

- Magicka

- Metro 2033 (great game, and will test your PC)

and finally, any game that is on a steam sale

I second this list, especially Metro 2033. I just started playing that not too long and it's scary. You feel this sense of immersion, like you're really there, fighting off mutants, trapped in the tunnels of a collapsed Soviet Russia. It's also very hard, but that's kind of the point.

Get the humble indie bundle 3? Also Batman: Arkham asylum is 7.50 on steam today for the daily deal.

I'd say the Dawn of War games if you like big, bloody, 'splodey battles. If you like smaller, more well thought out bloody, 'splodey battles and a kick ass campaign to boot, I'd say Dawn of War 2.
Im... Im a little bit of a Warhammer 40k fanboy. So if youre not interested in the universe of 40k, then disregard this post.

The original Deus Ex (show's its age a bit, but it's still amazing), Minecraft, Starcraft II, these are the first that come to mind.

My friend, you simply HAVE TO buy Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
In my opinion, it is a true masterpiece, perhaps one of the best examples of "games being art".

Another wonderful adventure game series is Benoit Sokal's "Syberia" and "Syberia II".

Oh my.. where to start..

Deus Ex 1-3 (2 kinda sucks compared to 1... but oh well)
Age of Empires 1-3 (guess you can sort of skip 1.)
Thief 1-3
Starcraft 2 (1 for the story, but you can sort of play that through user-made maps for 2)
Warcraft 3
Diablo2
TES: Morrowind
TES: Oblivion
All the fallout RPGs (maybe even Tactics)
Commandos3
Total War: Rome/Shogun2 (the best, others are good too)
Metro 2033
Heroes of Might and Magic 3-5
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
GTA 3-4 (plus the ones in between)

*stops for a breath*

Civilization 5
Max Payne 1&2
MDK 1&2
Zeus: Master of Olympus
The Sims
Company Of Heroes
Mass Effect
Knights of the Old Republic
Dragon Age
Monkey Island (all of them)
Syberia
The Longest Journey
Grim Fandango

....... *Goes off scrounging through the old game discs foaming at the mouth*

System Shock 2 is my only suggestion since everyone has already said everything else.

EDIT: Ohhh your gonna play CS? It's a huge learning curb man so it's gonna take a while to learn the game. I suggest making some friends and having them teach you some stuff.

supcom: forged alliance
starcraft 2
League of Legends
Prey
the mass effects
psychonauts (not really a PC game but you shouldn't miss it)
KOTOR (again, also on console but you shouldn't miss it)
you can't miss with the :total war series if you like microing everything to death and civ's turn based system
TES: oblivion (morrowind's combat kinda sucks and the graphics and prerendered environments mean it hasn't aged particularly well, especially if you like messing around more than following the story)
WC3: TFT (get the expansion it's a huge improvement on ROC)
Metro 2033 (a real system breaker from what i've heard)

there are more but i'm lazy

Have a look at the catalog of older games over at GoG.com. No DRM, great pc classics.

Scratch that, misread your first post...

Otherwise, I am a huge fan of the STALKER series, Battlefield games and Sam & Max. Try out old games too, it's not like the console world where games get their online canned after a couple of years, there's still plenty of people kicking about for just about any game you can think of.

Real time strategy games are worth a punt. Pick up Dawn of War, it's a laugh.

Also, welcome aboard!
