Don't know if it fit's but, Atmosphere is one of the best, his album Seven's Travels is one of the best albums ever in my book. MC Lars has songs about Moby Dick & edgar allen poe, and if you like nerds (if not, fuck off) listen to some MC Chris. also Deltron 3030 is one of the best hip-hop albums ever.

There's only ever been one Hip Hop artist I've liked, and that is the French jazz-Hip Hop artist MC Solaar. I can't understand a word he's saying of course (probably a good thing, considering most hip hop/rap lyrics) but I've always like French as a lyrical language, and the instrumentation is very nice indeed.

Everything else I really don't like though.

may i say that you have very Good taste in hiphop!!!

there are better titles from MC Solaar like:

"Solaar Pleure"

"Au pays de Gandhi"

Spoilered for the sake of user's bandwidth:<spoiler=Style of beyond : The story begins> <youtube=Yqy-TyqAE9A>

Unfortunately hip hop is no different to other genres (not to me at least), just because one act's track is amazing doesn't mean their next one will be too, so judge it all on a song by song basis.

Although I recommend the albums Follow the Leader (Eric B & Rakim) and College Drop out (Kanye West) whole heartedly, even to people who don't like rap.
You had me at Styles of Beyond, then lost me at Kanye. Oh well we could have made beautiful babies.

Where is that SOB track from? Its not from Megadef or 2000 Fold.

Mos Def is good and so is Busdriver. You should also look up MF Doom and his various alter egos, he is great

Contrary to what a certain user (*cough* fluffybacon *cough cough*)thinks of them. i think Insane Clown Posse or Twiztid are some good groups.
Aren't you too snooty for them? :p

The Great Milenko reminds me of my rebelious youth. I love their dating game spoof. How about 35 bucks an hour. Thats from a different album, though. I know that stupid song by heart and can rap it on cue.

Its the M O N O and I can't even spell the rest. It takes too long and I need a fucking cigarette. lol

It was pretty awesome. I stopped listening to their music after their first album. I kind of outgrew them I think. I prefer their funny stuff to their "serious" and violent stuff.

Rapper's Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang. Its pretty old school rap, not a lot of swearing. I think you will enjoy it.

Not sure if they have been mentioned but the ones I like are Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, Talib Kwali, A Tribe Called Quest, Atmosphere, Aesop Rock, Common, Old Kanye West (Before all the auto tune and similar crap), a fair amount of Kid Cudi, Flobots, Gym Class Heroes, The Coup, Black Star, Outkast, Dilated Peoples, Jurassic 5, Nas, Q-Tip, and De La Soul.

As a hip hop artist, and someone who has an appreciation of all music genres I find this type of comment highly closed minded. You probably haven't listened to much more hip hop then what's played on TV and in popular media in general. There is a big difference between real 'hip hop' (Atmopshere, POS, Brother Ali, Talib Kwali Bliss N Eso) and "pop rap/RnB" (Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Flo Rida, anything autotune..). The fact that you would blatantly discount a whole range of genres just with no explanation of why just show your ignorance. If you don't have anything to contribute to the discussion they you probably should just stay out of it and keep your opinions to yourself.
Firstly of all, it's just MY opinion, and many other musicians share the same opinion if you didn't notice it. And no, I don't blatantly discount it for no reason, I just don't find anything special about it. Sorry if I did offend you, as I didn't really intend it, it's just that, well I don't like those genres that I mentioned. There may be some that may be good, but I doubt it. Also I live in a place where people DO listen to that music, a HUGE lot, and that for me is annoying. And secondly, aren't actually opinions to be said and discussed in places like this?

not exactly thought provoking, but weird al's rap stuff is decent, and also extremely funny. various ones that stick out are can't watch this, white and nerdy, amish paradise, couch potato, and all about the pentiums. yes, all parodies, but they are good songs

Oh course they are. And I was just expressing my opinion on the topic too. My main issue was that on a thread regarding some who wanted advice (about something you said you dislike and knew little about), and you decided to use it as a chance to try to discredit the object of discussion. It just seemed to me (though you have stated otherwise) that your comment intended to spark controversy, rather then contribute to the discussion.
Being a musician too, I know how passionate you probably are about your chosen genre of music. I also know that we could go on and on with an argument about what sort of music is better, and that all we would accomplish would be sore voices from yelling and no progress on the issue at all.
What sorts of hip hop have you listened to? I'm making it my goal to find you some within the genre that you might like. (And I know there will be something! I used to hate metal until someone showed me all the different sub-genres out there, now Fear Factory is in the most played list on my iPod!)
