Good non-FPS PS3 games

Little Big Planet was boring and fail. Uncharted games are pretty great. I hear God of War 3 was good but I personally have never played ANY GoW game.

Demon's Souls, as has been said before.
I would also recommend Valkyria Chronicles and Nier. The latter of which I seriously love to bits.
Beware though: Both are Japanese, you might not like the style.
inFamous is always a good choice, though it is slightly shooter-ish.

I can also wholeheartedly recommend Just Cause 2 - one of the few games that isn't afraid to be a game.

On top of that I'd like to reccomend Flower, Everyday Shooter and FlOw, three exceptional games from exceptional developers, especially Flower, from the guys who made FlOw. it's amazingly calming.

Valkyria Chronicles, big time. It continues Skies of Arcadia's proud tradition of being troperifficly charming. Some missions are a *****, though (protip: don't go for the conventional "block it with your tank" strategy in Chapter 9, just let it past and unload your shocktroopers. You'll know what I mean); hell, I'm still stuck on Chapter 14.

Also, God of War Collection, Infamous (it's next-gen Sly Cooper, that's enough reason), and possibly Disgaea 3.

LittleBigPlanet.

It's probably the most inventive game the PS3 has to offer, so if you're going to go for something, go for that.

I thought about that but am not sure whether or not to hold out for the second since that's where everything will be soon enough

I assume, if its at all a factor for you, that the saves will be somewhat transferable, allowing you access to the previous costumes and so on. Apart from that the story itself was very entertaining for me, and since not particularly long you can get your money back after 3 days anyway by returning it. Will at the very least give you an indication as to whether you will enjoy the second one.

Most definitely. Also, Valkyria Chronicles and WipEout HD are good if you want something different. If you don't particularly care about inventiveness and just want a really good game, Uncharted 2 is amazing for showing what the PS3 can do graphically. Assassin's Creed II and Red Dead Redemption are pretty fantastic too.

I can't believe some of the games people are recommending here...most are sooo dull.
Try these: Armored core 4/Armored core: for answer, Last Rebellion (its a very...stripped down style of rpg, not heavy at all), Disgaea 4 (grindy goodness! maximum level 9999! maximum meta level 99999! more classes than 4 games combined!)
And Demons Souls, no game before it has made you afraid to play like that one.

edit: also, dynasty warriors gundam 2...its customization is kinda cool and the story is SO confusing and broken that its like being in the middle of some grand, confusing event that you get a handle on much later, and so it seems much bigger than it really is in the same way a mirror in a bar makes the place seem larger.

You're asking for non-FPS games on the non-FPS console, not much of a challenge

I'd like to add a recommendation for LittleBigPlanet 2. The first was amazing and the sequel has everything that had with a TON more. I've seen the amount they're adding, it's a surprise they can fit it all on one disc.

I'm looking for a new PS3 game that isn't your standard FPS because there are far too many and I want something new and inventive.

I've played and completed Heavy rain which I loved, any other suggestions are greatly appreciated, new and old games.

uncharted 1 & 2 TPS action game
littlebigplanet - you cant get anymore inventive or original than this, well you can but littlebigplent 2 hasnt been released yet.
warhawk - its like a TPS battlefield but on excessive amounts of drugs ( although its only multiplayer and was a launch title so by now the only people who play it are loyalists so be prepared to die...alot)
god of war 3 - just awsome anger relief
modnation racers - think littlebigplanet and mario karts love child
motorstorm 2 - doesnt get as much credit as it should this games one of my favourite racing games 4 player splitscreen with ai cars aswell need i say more
ratchet and clank - platforming goodness

also try some of the PSN games they are good addictive games for not too much money ... i got joe danger properly addicted to it
