More and more I have the feeling that I'm less and less considered a normal gamer. I was brought up a PC gamer (I still play console games, as long as I can't get it on PC). I played games like the Quake series, UT series, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Half-Life, Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft, and the lot. I still love to play them to this day. Nowadays every person I know is playing Call of Duty or Halo and that's all they want to play. They have no appreciation for older games that are just as much (if not more) fun. They just don't have as advanced graphics.

I don't blame game companies for developing different games and different styles. It gives it a refreshing change. But as time goes on people forget about old games and games style (for instance, CoD4 does not play like quake 3) and sometimes people don't even know about the game because of their age.

What games do you think are classics that no one really "cares" about anymore?

For me, I've always enjoyed UT04 and Quake 2. It's a shame I can't find many people that still play these.

Its not that they don't appreciate the old games...its just that there are new experiences to be had. I look fondly back on the older games that I've played in the past, but I have almost no reason to go back to them. Just like how I won't go back to Gears of War, or the first Halo anymore.

I've been around longer than those games, but those are just around the same time frame you've picked games from. There really isn't anything wrong with people not playing old games. Its just the developers that should heed old games.

A game I consider a classic that nobody really plays anymore is probably Black & White. Or maybe Sid Meier's Pirates(Not really a classic, but a reimagining of a class)

Eh, for the hell of it. I don't think enough people have played Super Mario RPG. In my opinion, that game is the best RPG I've ever played. It was just...so inviting that game.

Star Fox comes to mind as a classic but as the years progressed more and more people left the franchise.

But not this fan...

Not! This! Fan!

Also...I enjoyed the Medal of Honor games, I think I've played them all. It was my first FPS I think.

Well, I grew up on console, and love FPS like Halo and CoD (CoD especially). However, I'm starting to get into games like the ones you mentioned (I put down that Diablo value on my X-mas list, not getting any more games till then...). Games like those FPS's are more mainstream, but a lot of real gamers still play a variety of games.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron was my favorite video game when I was a kid.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I remember c&c renegade, its multi player was so spectacular, a few years ago I tried it again, I was suprised it still had servers up and a dedicated following.... I should really go back and play that some more, so much fun

The game I grew up playing (literally, I was two when I started), that no-one seems to have heard of, is Might and Magic VI. If I remembered it more clearly, I'm sure I could give some good points for it.

What I CAN vouch for is Heroes of Might and Magic III. I still play it to this day -- the graphics are still good (and were great when it came out), and I am willing to state that it is THE BEST strategy game of all time, and that it could hold up favorably to ANY strategy game currently out. And, like the previous one, it seems that no one has ever heard of it before.

I thought this topic was going to be about Good Old Games, or gog.com

Got me all excited too since I've bought quite a few amazing old games from there; Heroes of Might and Magic 3 complete is probably the one I've spent the most time playing since buying it, absolutely amazing game. A perfect blend of simple yet enjoyable tactical combat, rpg elements, world exploration and town management. Perfection! There just aren't any games like it that're nearly as well done.

But my all time favorite game would be Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, which I guess being... wow, almost 9 years old now, would make it old. Can't believe how old the game is because I've had it since launch and have never stopped enjoying it. The visuals are still crisp and clean, the plot fantastic, the characters memorable, the combat enjoyable. It's the only game I can't find flaw with, I just love it so much!

Still playing Warcraft 3. Thank you healthy modding community. Also, does any one remember Gladius for the PS2? The game was amazing, jest played it again a month or so ago. It REALLY deserves a sequel

Septerra Core was one of the first RPG's I've ever played and it made me enjoy those types of games.
