I'm a bit offended that nobody has suggested Valkyrie Profile.

Not really surprised though, the game has had a limited American release and has never been released in the PAL regions. Probably one of the best RPGs I've played, the only problems are that it's not very obvious what you have to do and that some most weapons have a chance of breaking which makes powerful weapons too awesome to use(Finagle's Law [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitlee6pckmje?from=Main.FinaglesLaw] will make that "Sword of Dragonslaying" break right before that huge dragon or on the first hit if you saved it).

Final Fantasy IX (best one in my opinion)
Spyro 1-3
Crash Bandicoot (all of the PS1 games)
Grandia (great game, and despite some flaws, its great. The shitty voice acting in some cases is also hilarious)
Parrapa The Rapper (Hilarious, and addicting. Don't question its power)
Mortal Kombat Trilogy (I know you said you don't like fighting games, but try this one, Its funny, its got a huge roster, its easy to pick up and play, and its gory beyond all hell.)

Skullmonkeys was hard, but funny

Medievil was okay

FF VII-IX are worth a go through

Chrono Cross was awesome

Legend of Dragoon was just an awesome RPG

Legend of Legaia is really good, and combines standard RPG gameplay, with fighting game mechanics.

Shadow Madness has graphics that are like puke, but it has an okay battle system, and awesome script. If nothing else, name me a different game where you get both a floating head and a robot who loves saying variations of "There will be death." Someone must write a fanfic where this games robot, whose name escapes me, works together with HK-47 to produce offspring...

I liked the demo for Ape Escape, never played the full game

I recently found Koudelka, interesting stuff, definitely worth a try. It's a gothic 19th century survival horror/RPG

I like Wu Tang: Shaolin Style

Mortal Kombat 4 is the 2nd best in the series, after Deception, IMO

Ready 2 Rumble Boxing was on PS1, I think...

Megaman Legends: an awesome 3d MEgaman gme, starring the very MEgaman who is in Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Also got a sequel.

Final Fantasy Tactics is fun, but suffers from bad translation, and difficulty that likes to switch from mind numbingly easy, to smash your controller hard, randomly.

God, so many other great games...

Ape Escape. The first game to fully utilise the PS1's dual shock controller. It is awesome.
Agreed. Also, Ape Escape still has the most interesting was of using analog sticks.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Probably cost you about £60 but its epic.

Front mission 3 (turn based strategy with RPG elements in giant robots) is my suggestion along with Suikoden (JRPG back when JRPGs were not so stale, six man party, turnbased, broken up by hundred men wars with a rock/paper/scissor/ninja mechanic. Also an Epic story, some heart renching moments).

I also found Vagrant story interesting. Square, now Sqeenix, trying something different. It 3rd person dungeon crawl RPG with almost a rhythm action game feel to combat and an some interesting charecters. Very much focused on creating your own weapons and armour as there is no shop. Tonnes of weapon types too.

Odd World abes exodus and oddesy

crash bandicoot 1-3

Digimon world 1-3 (cant believe no one has said that yet!)
Thank god somebody said it I especially love the more unique game play of the first one was much more true to the original hand held devices in that you had to worry about training mistakes and lifespans when the later ones were all about maxing out stats in order to hit the requirements to digivolve backwards and forwards.
Apart from that all the ps1 release ff's. I envy the yanks who can play tactic's bought a copy at a garage sale only to find out it was bleeding ntsc and therefore unplayable.

Legend of Mana
Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen/Soul Reaver
Hexen (if you haven't on PC)

Not sure what else as I'm looking for good games, too.

Hexen comes on the Playstation too? I've played the PC version many times and I can definitely recommend it.

Also, Medievil 1 but not 2, MGS (like everyone and their dog), Crash Bandicoot 1 - 3 and Hogs of War, if only for Rik Mayall.

And Spyro. Can't forget Spyro.

Crash Bandicoot 1-3
Spyro 1-3 (Personally like 1 the best but hey that's just me :))
Ape Escape was fully sick, once you get the hang of it xD
The Early GTA games, I think GTA2 was the most addicting to me (spent hours and hours roaming around in a tank running over everything to get enough money to go to the next level) xD

Tombi or Tomba was a pretty awesome game, I think that's what it was called down here in AUS, Pink haired dude of awesome :)

Aww.... this is bringing back fully awesome memories.... should get the old beast back out again :)

Legend of Dragoon, I'll let someone else tell you why you're retarded to get any other game.

Spyro 1-3.

Just do it.

These were the ONLY Spyro games, so you should really try them.
These, definitely. Rule of thumb: Newer Spyro games have been anything from slightly below mediocre to spectacularily crappy, but if you see a Spyro game for the PS1, you're in for a treat you'll never forget!

Also, GRANDIA! The original. If you like RPGs, you can't afford to miss Grandia. I've played pretty much every Final Fantasy ever, Legend of Dragoon (also recommended), Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and Oblivion (to name a few), but Grandia remains my favorite to this day!

It crashes on occasion if you try it on a PS2, but since you will be using a PS1, you're guaranteed smooth sailing!
THERE WERE ONLY THREE SPYRO GAMES!!!!!
