Two that I particularly like although I don't recommend them if you are a Metal/Rock fan who inherently hates electronic music.

Metallica's 'Fade to Black' by Apoptygma Berzerk: Link

Rolling Stones' 'Paint It Black' by VNV Nation: Link
I don't think that Paint it Black remix is by VNV Nation. It is too Techno/Trance for VNV. Also I find no mention of that on their sites. I am assuming that the guy on YouTube posted the wrong band name.

The Jonas Brothers doing Take on Me. If there is a God, the Jonas brothers will burn in the deepest circle of hell.

Bad- Lily Allen's Mr Blue Sky. It has no feeling, whereas the ELO version is just.. amazing. :D

Good- Muse's Feeling Good. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me, because of how wonderfully different, creative, and emotional it was.

The only cover I actually listen to on a regular basis (one that is quite good, actually) is Disturbed's "Land of Confusion", originally by Genesis. Good song.

Oh, and Johnny Cash with "Pain" by NIN is the saddest song of life.

EDIT: Oh oh, and Reel Big Fish did a good cover of "Take On Me".

Good: All Along the Watchtower (Hendrix covering Bob Dylan's song)

Bad: Instant Karma (Tokyo Hotel covering a John Lennon Song)

Any song that the Jonas Brothers cover by any half way respectable artists.(They covered a Beatles song and ruined it. That should be punishable by law.)

I personally enjoy Hikaru Utuda's (female singer of the Kingdom Heart themes) cover of Boulevard of Broken Dreams: link

And, while I don't really like Kanye West, his cover or whatever of Daft Punk's Harder Better Faster Stronger, is starting to grow on me: link

Admittedly I didn't think it was either, but everywhere I look it says it is *shrugs*.

I'd say the Gary Jule's verson of Mad World is much better then the Tears for Fears original due to the tune actually matching the lyrics. While I also love the originals, Seether did a neat cover of Careless Whisper by George Michaels, and the Deftones did a great cover of Drive by The Cars (both of which sounded noticably different to the originals).

Any cover where you've a;ready heard the original = bad.
No. This is just the mental block people put up. They want the original to be better, so they refuse to be objective about it.

This might get some of you to hunt me down, but some of the songs on the Across the Universe soundtrack (Across the Universe, Happiness is a Warm Gun) are better than the originals, I think. Others (With a Little Help From My Friends) are simply terrible.

good: the cover of Fade To Black by Sonata Arctica, Sweet Dreams by Marilyn Manson, also the only song they played I like, and some obvious ones.
bad: can't think of any
