I laughed at the title.
Then I read your post. I like the idea, but I'm just afraid it won't really help that much.
Personally, I try to be as sportmanshippy and polite as possible, but a lot of people seem to be complete douches, who really don't give anything about that.
That is what I am sick of I just want the idea out there, you know. That way people have somewhere if they want to be with like minded gamers who just want to have fun.
Perhaps I'm being a bit of a pessimist XD
I must say I think it''s quite a unique (and good) idea. The topic has been discussed multiple times, but this is the first time I've seen someone trying to do something about it.
I wish you good luck with your group, good sir.

I don't see why not though. You don't stop midway through a bad tennis game and tell your opponent that he fucks his own mother? Anonnymous or otherwise I don't see why human beings should turn into the most foulmouthed ignorant beings the second they know no-one can see them.

You wouldn't see it during a sporting event so why not online on a video game?

I don't really play that many online games against people, so I'm not interested. But back when I was into MNC, I would send good game comments to anyone I saw busting their digital hump in the game, even if they were all the other team.

Il join. I get sick of playing people online that shout down the mic whenever they score a kill, or whenever they are themselves, killed. Yes im aware i could just mute them, but that takes extra effort haha.

Also it works in another direction. I was once playing with some friends on a Halo Reach Swat map. we won, with me getting the most kills. We werent being overly aggressive, we were just better, and the entire other team put unsporting behaviour on my rep ¬_¬....why, just because i was better?

Well, some people do.
Online or not, you're still talking to someone. There's no reason not to behave in a normal fashion.

Sure, I'll join. As I used to tell some of the people I used to play COD4 with way back when, "I don't care how you kill me as long as it's legitimate. Sure, I'll groan about you killing me, but I won't start hating you for it. Now, if you're aimbotting or wallhacking, on the other hand...expect me to make it personal."

You actually do. Quite a bit.
Especially in large team sports. For example any code of Rugby or Football, in Baseball, in Basketball etc.

I don't think that it's acceptable and it's always better to win without resorting to making your opponent angry to force errors.

Okay, I've taken some rough tackles in both Rugby and Footbal (providing we're talking about Football Football and not American) and I swore pretty much every time, but not aimed at the person tackling me... they are on playing their position afterall.

Maybe I just come from a village full of really nice people... oh wait I come from a village of wankers =P

Man I'm a high school basketball coach and my team heckle each other at training let alone in games against other teams. I try to encourage them to leave the shit talking on the sideline but when you get pushed in the back it's tempting to insult someone rather than just tell them to fuck off. This isn't a dodgy school either, it's one of the better schools I've ever seen.

Sounds like a good idea. Since you are going to try and encourage GG through games, will there be a Steam group?

Wow, never seen it that bad around here. The worst it gets was when our secondary school had a game against Hagley; there was a bit of a rivalry between our two schools so things got a bit bitter thanks to a long rivalry. But never full on cursing.

I will put up info on such things on the group page, in due time. Also welcome to the Escapist! :p

While I don't play online games that often I always say good game to the opposing team. So I'll sign up, just to show my support.

I like the idea but I don't know if it will do anything for online gaming just because for every ten people that agree with you there are another 1,000 that disagree.

I'm not sure if this would come under advertising but I think that this is a great idea anyhow.

The idea here is to start it, I just want people to encourage others in some way. A place to bounce ideas around to spread the idea.
