To preface, i didn't really believe in breathing techniques, but this one did make me sleepy. So anyway. There's a breathing technique we were taught that mimics how you breath during deep sleep. Breathe in and hold for 5 seconds and then breathe out and hold for 5 seconds. When doing it you have to take heaps of air into your lungs to the point where you are stomach is sticking out rather gracefully.
Actually there is a breathing technique that works for me. You breath in for 1 second and out 10 eventually you will pass out. You can also speed up the process by taking a large portion of blood out. Just make sure you you are laying down i passed out and smashed my head on a table once.
...Exuse me for a second. *Runs out of the room*

*Runs back with large gash on the forehead* I can now officially confirm that your method is far more effective.

Watch Bladerunner.

Pretty pictures of a futuristic city coupled with an incoherent story and a musical score by Vangelis. You'll be out like a light in half an hour.

Give a very in depth lecture on the wonders of Nuclear Engineering and all nuclear reactor models to your friend, only three things will come from it and one of them is good.

Think of nothing. Its hard to get right in the beginning, so focus on your breathing. If a thought comes into your head push it back out. I can't explain it better, but that's what I do every night. I'm usually out in 5 minuetes -.- Zzzzz

Eat right
Exercise
Have a steady day rhythm
Work up rituals (brushing teeth, reading a book, etc.)
Don't do anything else in bed than sleep and have sex
No heavy eating/caffeine before bed
Set up everything you efficiently can, to be ready for the morning (clothes, loaded coffee machine, etc.)

That solves it.

What did i say about laying down? Unless thats where you extracted the blood. If so then i suggest that the best place to take blood from is bellow the shloder. Good luck to you.

I have sleeping difficulties, to the point where I have to wait till I pass out from exhaustion. I find two ways make me fall asleep quite easily; warmth and movement.

When I get warm, I find it much easier to nod off which is a shame since the science labs and computer suite in my school are both quite warm and they are some of my favourite places. It can't be too warm though, it has to be a specific temperature. I remember one occasion when I fell asleep in history, another room which was warm. the feeling of the heat was quite smothering almost, I'd compare it to a warm embrace. Pressure might have had something to do with it.

The movement is a bit more complicated. When I'm in a moving vehicle like a car I can sleep very well. The vibrations sooth me a great deal and I can make myself go to sleep as a opposed to passing out from exhaustion

If I had to guess I suppose both of these could be traced back to infancy. Great, now I sound like Sigmund Freud. The warmth of a mother's embrace and being rocked to sleep. Ironically I was terrible as a baby because I barely ever slept.

Chloroform. Mwahahahahaha! *cough* Um... Yeah.

Personally I prefer Horlicks.
Methyl ether.

OT (and still sarcastic): Sleeper hold. A good right hook.

OT (and honest now): Be more active during the day, avoid caffeine and excitement before trying to sleep. Don't read in bed or hang out on it, in fact, if you have a dedicated bedroom, don't go there except to sleep.

This is all advice I've heard/read. Getting into a workout routine makes your body more physically need sleep, and that helps you go to sleep. Caffeine and sugar should be avoided for hours before you want to sleep for obvious reasons. The avoid bed for other than sleeping thing is psychological, it supposedly helps your brain associate your bed with the act of sleeping.

I could use some of this advice. I'm gonna be on a plane to France tonight, and once we get there, it's gonna feel like 2:00 AM to me, while in France it'll be 8:00 AM, and we're going straight to a walking tour. Any tips for sleeping on a plane would be appreciated.

Depends on the person, but hot milk and soothing music get me down most of the time.

Or I could tell them about my life, they'll be out before they know it.

2 minutes of class and i'm sleeping like a fat baby. Either that or watching politics debate. Takes them half an hour to say not a damn thing.

There were a suspiciously large number of posts before this was mentioned!
