Cause remember gamers, Size Matters.

No, I can make the biggest desert map that ever existed, but that won't give it an better atmosphere or make it detailed.
That's what I care in a map.

Even if it is that large, which I doubt it is, we all know that its going to, like every other GTA game, consist 95% of fake prop buildings that you cant interact with in any way.

that is the biggest problem with GTA games, they throw you in this world, but the entire world is fake, and all the buildings are essentially props, its a dull world that you cant interact with for the most part.

I'll believe it when I see it. YTep- still burned by the shittiness of GTA IV here.

Also big maps isn't always a good thing- espcially if it's just one city. Just Cause 2 crammed heaps and heaps of content into the country of Panau, and it STILL felt barren at times...

2 questions: Will I be able to control helicopters easier or use jetbacks? And will it finally work on the PC instead of being a POS port?

If yes to both, I buy.

I'd rather they increase the detail and richness of a smallish area instead of diluting it by making it bigger. Of course, it's possible to do both, but they won't.

I'm over the GTA series and have been for sometime. The disconnect between narrative and gameplay in IV drove me insane. "Nico, I'm so broke. Help out your cousin. We need to make it in America, what's going on?" I have $75k+ and we're still poor and not "making it"? What?

Not to mention Nico is a sympathetic character during cutscenes, but as soon as its over, no matter how hard you try, you're going to run six old women over just trying to get out of the parking lot. GTA needs to pick whether or not it's going to tell a legitimate story with a strong, positive protagonist or it needs to be the circus it used to be. They've proven it is nearly impossible to be both unless you're willing to spend 30 hours of your game waiting at traffic lights and crawling through Liberty safely.

Not a fan of the difficulty curving either. I always seem to get 60-80% through the game only having to play each mission 1-3 times and then I stop playing because 40 tries on the same mission (that you have to drive across town to every time) still doesn't get it done.

Mooooovin' on...

2 things, 1 I'll beleive it when I see it

2, Even if it is that big, the better question is will there be anything to do in it? I remember reading in very early interviews them saying it would include the surrounding "wilderness" areas around the city, and my first thought was "that great and all but why? will there be any reason for it?" so it could be huge but be a mass of empty forest and even if it is a huge city doesnt mean there will be anything to do in it except extend your drive time between landmarks

Oh and "ocean floor"? you cant count that surely? unless the plot is going to involve some bond-esque underwater evil lair the sea bed doenst count in my book

Well they said Heists would be a bid part of the game, an Underwater part during a robbery could be awesome as shit in the late game

I've never really liked being forced to switch between different protagonists, but maybe they'll all be interesting enough to enjoy.

Bigger game is good news, though. I haven't been terribly disappointed by a GTA yet. Although, I still preferred the arcade-y driving.

I'm having a hard time resisting the usual brainwashing. However, the map size doesn't matter as much as how you get around. If it's going to be boring like traveling from one end of the map to the other in Just Cause 2 then meh. It has to be fun to travel through.

But will they account for it in travel methods?

Remember, the biggest sandbox game of this type is Just Cause 2, which had a quick and convenient grappling hook that let you hitch onto any vehicle or onto terrain, coupled with an infinite parachute for instant airborne antics. If you have a game where you have to drive more than five minutes to the airport and jack a plane in order to cross the map as efficiently as possible, you're not doing it right (Just Cause 2 let you jack helicopters that were already airborne, as well as planes if you were skilled enough, and made them frequent enough that you didn't necessarily have to drive to an airport to get one).

I found san andreas to be a bit too big. You got around with the Jetpack and flew for a bit too long in my Opinion.
I havn't played the later Games, i tried GTA IV, i really did but the copy Protection Software wouldn't let me. Also that Software was a ***** to get rid of. Harder then most malware.

Will the new Copy Protection Software instead of basically just being malware do one better and search and download new malware onto my Computer now?

Funny you should say that, I wrote an unpublished fanfic many years ago about Niko Bellic finally realizing and coming to terms with the fact that his reality is fake. Like he goes all truman show and starts following around pedestrians to see where they go and shit.

That said... I actually swung the opposite way, I thought Rockstar had done such a great job creating a living breathing city that as a player I couldn't help but realize it was fake. If they had done the same thing that did with GTAIV in GTAIII my mind would of been blown.

The only two things I find wrong about this big news is...

- No buyable properties. Me: WTF one of the BEST parts in San Andreas were the properties, which I loaded up on cash and then I went on a buying spree...what the hell are they going to use for bases and such...I want to buy them at least. :(

- The main characters "professions". A retired bank robber (not bad), Career criminal and drug addict (Meh, the usual except with a drug problem) and a street hustler. Is it me or these seem like the same characters they use in every GTA game...I would like something like Tommy from Vice City to return...or an undercover cop or even another military guy.

- I don't like how you have to switch between them...feels forced.

On the bright side I like how they're making a bigger area...but that can be a good and a bad thing...which we will have to see.

The "loads of other stuff." things better be more fun then the buyable properties.
Basically this game is a good or bad thing in my opinion so far.

Captcha: I want control.

I agree!

I think they are saying that you can choose to switch between them though, as in you're in a chase and you can choose to play as the driver, the guy with the machinegun or the sniper keeping watch.

That is the feeling I got at least, I might be wrong, though I hope I am not.

Sounds like typical PR crap yes its bigger better but also has all you liked before just more so. Heard it all thousands of times before will wait until the final product to make a call.
I agree, it's always best to take what developers say with a pinch of salt. After all, they are working as salesmen to an certain extent.

That said, GTA games have always been impressive in scope, so I don't doubt that it'll still offer a larger scale than the average game.
