The Pine Hill Haints. I have to admit that I don't actually own any music of theirs, but I have been to a couple of their shows. They put on a good, fun show. I love them.

And Slow Runner. Their music just makes me happy.

Also, thank you to the people who mentioned the Kelly Bell band. I had not heard of them before this thread, and I looked them up after you mentioned them. They are fun! I look forward to hearing more of their stuff.

It's a damn shame I'm not going through my heavy metal phase right now, it sounds like there's a ton of great bands out there. Then again, for the sake of my credit card, it's probably for the better I'm not listening to a lot of metal.

Contribution:

Remember that show I mentioned earlier, "The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus"? Well, although The Who don't really fit the bill of underrepresented bands, I'd say this song probably does. To my knowledge, it's not on any of their regular albums, but it damn well should be (With my luck, it probably is and I just don't know about it. Either way, it's a rare live version that completely kicks ass):

A Quick One While He's Away [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjyZ6B7mC-w]

Fun bits of trivia -

One of the purported (though unverified and unlikely) reasons that this particular show was not released for so long is that some claim the Rolling Stones were jealous at being upstaged by the Who, who had just gotten off a world tour and were in top form. The Stones, on the other hand, had not and are quite obviously high for their act.

At the time of this recording, Keith Moon was still their drummer (He would later die of an overdose (Don't do drugs, kids)) and is the one playing drums in this video. He was, according to popular rumor, the inspiration for the Muppet "Animal"

For something more in line with the thread and underrepresented bands:

Hard Rock
Black Tide - Shockwave [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rU9DCB2qL1Q]

Hip-Hop/DJ/I don't know what to call it
Cut Chemist - The Garden [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHhlaspXVgo]

I'm very surprised Theatre of Tragedy didn't come up in the female-led metal discussion:

16 Horsepower is magnificent. One of the few country bands I can listen to.

I know Nick Cave is huge in some parts of the world, but he still ain't as famous as he should be.

I think Natasha Khan qualifies, but that could just be me being an ignorant American.

Wilco, anyone? I hope...
i do like Wilco but they are pretty well known (although not stupidly well known I suppose)

[b/]Okkervil River[/b] - Possibily my most loved music act after Sufjan Stevens. Some of the most brilliant and intelligent songwriting you can hear in the world anywhere.

[b/]Hawksley Workman[/b] - Awesome songs and a wide variety of musical genres explored. Great use of a great voice.

These are the two that i would highly recommend to people right now.

EDIT: Can I just ask that rather than list a load of names of bands (for whatever purpose) instead recommend a few and explain why. It is just boring to read a name of lists and it looks like you are just trying to be cool and say "look at me, look at how obscure bands I know about".

As I've said every time we get this thread (lol condescending post)
If I realized it was such a common topic, I wouldn't have bothered with it, haha. As you can probably tell from the post count, I'm still a bit new here.

Who hasn't heard of Streetlight Manifesto? I feel bad for those who haven't...

I would say Tally Hall. As I've said it many times before.
Actually, I haven't heard of Streetlight Manifesto. In fact, the only band I've heard of mentioned on this page is Daft Punk.

And for the record, I was being kind of tongue in cheek when I said "No one has heard of". Really, a more accurate to my meaning title would be "lesser known bands". Sorry for the confusion.

EDIT: Thread title changed
Well, I'll ask if you've heard of "dredg". I bloody love that band:

Focus. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focus_(band)] Crazy medieval English folk music-influenced Dutch progressive jam band from the '70s. Dig the madness. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNzqWIz9wWs]

Sacrifist, Agro, Chromium
They are the metal giants of South Africa, though no one outside seems to know about them.
Except maybe a bit in Germany.

Animal Collective.
Shut your whore mouth! On that note...BrokenCyde! In fact I would rather see BrokenCyde live, then go see Animal Collective live again.
Not to start a argument or anything, but BrokenCyde... How can I put this without sounding insulting? Maybe I just don't "get" them, but what is up with them? Their background rhythm is pretty good, but the random screaming, the poser outfits, the guy in a pig costume (Freaxxx). I just don't see the appeal. I swear, I'm only 21, so I'm not that old...

On that note (even though it was mentioned briefly once earlier in the thread)

In Flames - The Quiet Place [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAAXK3Mzm2k]
I was just being Sarcastic, I don't like BrokenCyde, because I think they just terrible
-Thinking they are punks
-Screaming (LOTS OF IT)
-Sounds pretty repetitive Imo

but hey! at least the music videos are entertaining...but to be honest I don't get the Animal Collective either, I saw them as Sasquatch music festival on the main stage and the only thing entertaining thing happening was the drunk chick banging against me that looked like Jubilee of the 1990's X-men cartoon....but they are different they get points for that, but for sucking ass at a music festival they get my thumbs down.
