I wonder how many people I'm gonna ninja with this one:

Goddamn, was that a good controller. The layout of the buttons, the way it fit in your hands, the analog stick, all brilliant.

Hey Nintendo, here's an idea: Release a Gamecube style Pro Controller when Smash Bros. Wii U comes out. I guarantee a lot of hardcore fans would buy one in a heartbeat.

This is the best controller there is:

Because helping the disabled play games > the controller that makes me feel an ounce more comfortable than my fully able life already provides.

It was a nice controller, but you have to admit, it was pretty tacky. Just the plastic/way it was made wasn't really that great. Apart from that, I agree, damn good controller. My favourite is probably the PS2 though. It's just what I used first and grew most used to.

The Saturn Controller

IMO the pinnacle of controllers for 2d gaming. It's got a comfy shape reminiscent of the Genesis controller, a great d-pad and that 6 face button layout, making it more analogous to an arcade cab than other controllers of the time (not counting arcade sticks).

Yeah sure, it was rendered pretty much obsolete when 3d gaming and analog sticks became the norm, but as far as I'm concerned, when it comes to 2d, the Saturn controller has no equal.

Already ninja'd, but I'm gonna say it anyway. THE GAMECUBE CONTROLLER.

It wasn't just, like, a controller, man. It was an extension of your MIND.

Agreed! Greatest controller ever made, IMO.
Nintendo not letting us plug those into the WiiU is a real shame.

Right console, wrong controller (kind of). Best way to play was clearly with the Wavebird.

The purple one looked silly. The silver Wavebird was just beautiful =P

Plus wireless too! :D

Also, I'd also nominate the Xbox 360 pad too, just behind the Gamecube, and I can't wait for the Xbox One controller because that seems to be the 360 one, but better. :D

Dreamcast's was another personal favourite of mine as well.

That dpad is the pinnacle of design imo as you can just sit your thump in the middle and quite easily pull off precise moves. It's what made Street Fighter 2 hands down the best to play on the Megadrive.

I would have thought that it would be as common among 1st parties or atleast 3rd parties but apart from those Chinese knockoff Saturn pads no one has copied the design exactly. SEGA must have a patent on it that's all I can think of.

I myself am not a fan of the cross d-pad, it's ok to play NES style platformers for that old school feel but as an all-round d-pad it stinks.

The dual shock. It wouldnt have stood the test of time for about 15 years if it wasnt so good
Have to agree. In fact, I like the Dual Shock 3 the most of all of it's iterations because it's just the tiniest bit bigger, but it fits my hand better as a result.

The Gamecube controller was pretty good, but it was always a bit small if you ask me and the button layout (and the hard plastic they were made out of actually) was kind of stupid. And the C-stick never should have had a nub instead of an actual large grip surface like the left stick. Any game that required using the C-stick extensively meant you were constantly re-adjusting as your thumb slipped off.

Yup, that is my favorite controller right there.

Besides #1 being the Gamecube controller, others I like include:

Such an old controller, yet it laid the foundation of having shoulder buttons, four buttons in a cross formation, simple now, almost overwhelming back then.

Xbox 360 controller is definitely an all around great controller, feels great every time.

Well that saved me the trouble of finding an image to post.

I love this controller and I have used it for most Wii games that were compatible and I think I will buy an adapter for the Wii U

Luckily there are unofficial solutions such as this one http://raphnet-tech.com/products/gc_to_wiimote/index.php?category=
While it's not perfect I think I'll end up buying one.

Always gonna go with the DualShock models. Really anxious to see how the DualShock 4 compares to its predecessors.

They're just... so nice in my hands. Any other controller feels really weird.

I disagree completely. Not a bad controller by any means, but... great? The D-pad is way too small, the Start/Pause button is too far away from everything else, and those shoulder buttons are basically the worst thing ever.

And it's probably just me not being used to the controller, but the ABXY layout sucks so bad. Especially how X and Y look so similar/close together, it makes on-screen button prompts (like in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door) really easy to fuck up.

I'm not one to praise Microsoft very often, but the Xbox360 controller is the best I have ever used, especially seeing as I have one of those silver ones with the non-shitty D-pad. Also surprised to see so many people apparently like the Dualshock. Personally I can't stand it, its too light, I prefer the 360 stick layout, and the awful L2/R2 buttons and convex sticks actually bugged me enough that I bought third party modifications to make them less shit.

Gotta love the 360 controller, just a fantastically well designed piece of gear.
I'd third this as well.

The Dualshock is fine, but I think the 360 controller is nigh perfect. The 360 controller fits my hands so perfectly.

I must say, the 360 controller currently stands as the most perfect first party controller ever made.
The most uncomfortable first party controller of the past few generations has to be the DualShock.
