The Master in Fallout 1 was probably the most terrifying thing I've faced. Before you even reach the boss your character starts to die from hallucinations induced by the FEV emissions. And then after a drawn out conversation trying to convince him to stop producing super mutants (And you hoping to god he complies so you don't have to fight this monstrosity) you're pitted against him in a 1v1, and you suddenly realise you can't hit him with anything because he's reduced your perception to 2.

Oh, and pretty much every fast moving mutant in the STALKER franchise.

Guild Wars.

Man, I loved Guild Wars - but boy, was I ever shit at it. We're talking "stuck at Thunderhead Keep for three months" shit. I progressed through the entire game via a series of battles of attrition.

Got to the Temple of the Ages. Decided to drop a hard-earned platinum to see what this Fissure of Woe was all about. Yes, this was before heroes. Yes, that meant I had to go in solo. Yes, my platinum lasted less than ten seconds.

Good times.

For me, the last time I played The Secret World, which to be fair I absolutely love. Every mission was going smoothly and I was pretty well buffed for the point I was in the game, in the third zone on Solomon Island, when I get a phone call from the Templar leaders asking me to report to HQ for a new task. When I arrive I'm given instructions to track down a rogue agent and recover a stolen artefact. I noticed the mission rating was 'Devastating', even for my strength level, but I figured it was a glitch and carried on. Everything went well until I got to the final part, where I have to fight two enemy agents and then the rogue Templar, all at the same time, with insta-kill moves knocking me out before I have chance to get a hit in. I couldn't return to Agartha for another 20 minutes, having already recently used the fast-travel mechanic recently, so I just stopped playing.

That was around two months ago.

I will carry on playing soon, and quit this mission to do it another time, but I just let it get to me when I shouldn't have. I definitely wasn't ready for this...

I know it sounds stupid, but the Marine campaign in Aliens Vs. Predator (the newer game). You start off with a pistol and the whole idea that a fucking Xeno could come out of no where and try to eat your face? Yeah, no thank you.

Also near the end of the Last of Us in that tunnel with the shit-ton of infected. I managed to sneak by them only killing two, but I was ready to shit myself seeing all of them. My boyfriend managed to kill them all, thought I have no idea how the fuck he managed to do that...

Walking into Brock's Gym in Pokemon Red. I had a Charmander that easily took out most of the Pokemon that I had fought up until I got there, but I got flattened almost instantly.

[quote="OneCatch " post="9.823513.19978320OT: The Mongols and Timurids showing up in Medieval I and II Total War certainly qualify. Whoever you are, wherever you are, however big your empire, you'll almost inevitably be unprepared.
Playing as a western country you almost feel bad for the AI when they show up in the East and curbstomp everything until they reach Western Europe and get bogged down by all the castles.

I remember the first time the golden horde popped up on my doorstep when i was playing the russians Luckily I had a suprisingly built up castle which with a meager 2 groups of archers and one group of milltia (as always) in it held against 3 assults because walls were amazing in medieval I
