Soldier of Fortune 2, perhaps the greatest FPS of it's time. It was an absolute gorefest with a simple storyline that kept you massacring waves and waves of enemies and feeling damn good about it too.

Sometimes being the good guy is decent. That being said, I do miss games like SF2 when they actually tried to be abusively disturbing without being comical, but at the same time, not horror.

Doom was fairly sweet, it occupied the vast majority of my youth in sweet blood shedding violence.

TimeSplitters 3 = Best FPS of last gen.

System Shock 2 = First FPS to give me scares beyond the 'SOMETHING JUMPS OUT' crap.

Modern Warfare 2. The hight of shooting prowess. I mean it's just so innovative and has such a deep story. Oh and the online community is great to, really geared towards teamwork and co-operation.
Modern Warfare 2 wasn't all that innovative to be honest. It was a decent game but it wasn't anything new. The storyline was alright but it wasn't all that 'new'.

Still a good game and probably is the best of its time in the case of sales and playerbase, although that being said I could easily mark any of the Half-Life based games.

Maybe i should have made my sarcasm more clear....
Aye probably. I was guessing there was a hint but the whole 2 AM time is a harsh mistress on reading TEXT BASED SARCASM. So I am now implying my currently red and dying eyes with LARGE TEXT, which makes me feel better atm.

I think you should give S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl a try I found it to be one of the scariest FPS' I've ever played...

Yes, I should.

The new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a graphical beauty on a environment scale.

I wonder if anyone will post "Halo".

It's hard for me to say what the greatest shooter may be, because I think most are pretty contrived, even those I -really- enjoy.

That said, I guess I'd answer The Orange Box, if permitted. Portal is the most clever shooter, TF2 is, for me, the most enjoyable shooter, and Half Life is a pretty well-written shooter. To be a truly great game, you have to combine all three, so I think The Orange Box is the best answer.

It depends on what you mean by "Greatest". If we're going by level of influence, the answer is Halo, hands down. It single-handedly revolutionized shooters and just about all subsequent games have taken at least one aspect from it.

If we're talking which ones were most enjoyed/highest quality, I'd say either Half-Life 2 or TimeSplitters 2. HL2 is just awesome, even today, and I spent hours upon hours upon hours playing TimeSplitters 2 with my friends.

Have you tried the 2009 complete mod for Shadow Of Chernobyl? now that's what I call beautiful it completely overhauls the engine and it looks even better than Call Of Pripyat...

Timesplitters 2 was probably the best multiplayer fps, especially for those who like to play with people in the same room - simple, fast, silly and FUN. No killstreaks, no camping, more Robofish, more zombies more obscure disjointed storyline.
