There seems to be a suvere lack of Half Life 2 in here. Deus Ex is another one that was mindblowing, although System Shock 2 was the innovation for the game.

Time splitters 2 was an awesome fps but that was when i was 7. then theres killzone (original) which i Most enjoyed and then theres halo, gears of war, call of duty (anything but modern warfare 2) and that's it.

And to add with that;
- HeXen
- Heretic
- Blood
And many others.

My two top choices;
- Duke Nukém 3D
- DESCENT
I never really got to play the first three, so I can't add them to my list, but I now know that I somehow missed the Duke. Seriously, how did I forget to put Duke Nukem 3D on my list?

Deus Ex. I challenge you to refute my claims!

Dark Messiah of Might and MAgic - hey, technically it's an fps :p
First-Person SLASHER. Dark Messiah was a brilliant game and drastically underrated. The spiders were the scariest damn monsters I've ever seen in any game.

yes medicombo, he's right, the first halo is excellent, it had a great single player and an actual storyline

now, for my pick

sure it was not popular or shit, but it was pretty ahead of it's time, and guess what, it's a terminator FPS, made by Bethesda

or this one

it's like Left 4 Dead, before Left 4 Dead was Left 4 Dead

No one said Quake. It was a revelation for its time since it introduced:
- full 3d
- online multiplayer
- mods (the tools were distributed freely and several of the formats are still used i.e. bsp)
- first person shooter structure (models, maps etc. are still the building blocks for fps's today)
- different languages for game description and game engine(it's now python/lua instead of quakec but the idea was innovative)
- the game was designed to be portable on different architectures

Between Wolfenstein 3d(the game that popularized 3d even it if wasn't the first to use it and even if it wasn't real 3d) and Half-Life i can't think of a more important milestone.
