so i was wandering just who is the greatest guitarist ever? it's so hard to decide. do you go for all round skill? or for influence? for me it's a toss up between joe satriani, steve vai and hendrix.
can anyone else shead some light here?

Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead he's my favorite...
Edit: also J. Rodrigo anyone who can write anything as good a Concierto De Aranjuez deserves my praise...

Claudio Sanchez.

What other guitarist has gotten one book (four more to come) and three comic series (thus far) along with a graphic novel published?

As well as release five CDs, play three (or was it four?) four-night concerts playing one of his band's (at the time) four CDs each night in order. While still finding time to marry his wife, and put out a CD for his side-project?

Greatest guitarist ever.

For shear technique, writing great songs, and still touring in one of the biggest bands of all time... I think there are two candidates. It goes down to either Keith Richards or Pete Townshend. I am slightly biased, but I do love the era of music.

It's all personal preference, so no quoting me just to tell me I'm wrong.

On a tangent, Rodrigo y Gabriela's stuff is pretty mindblowing. Maybe it doesn't fill your criteria.

Joe Satriani. Yes he does play fast in some songs, but he can do it all if he wanted to.
here is my favorite instrumental by him.
