I do love self explanatory titles. But to avoid any confusion, I'd like to clarify that it doesn't have to be a movie. Anything in the western genre- book, movie, game, or otherwise- is fine.

It's not the most popular or highly regarded movie around, but I'd have to go with 'The Outlaw Josey Wales," which I just watched not too long ago. The beginning was pretty short/cheesy but I loved the rest. The characters were interesting, the directing was great, and there was just enough grit and brutality to keep things feeling real. Also, Clint's beard is pretty great.

There's also a lot of spitting, and people seem to like saying Josey Wales.

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.
This, for the final dual alone.
Seconded, that scene was the only scene ever that had me literally on the edge of my seat. I was even holding my breath for a while, that was some tense stuff.

Once Upon A Time In The West.

I would have said The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, already three people have mentioned it.

3:10 to Yuma. By no means a classic, but it's the only western I've made it through still interested in the characters.

Original or remake? Because the original IS a classic.

My vote is for Once Upon a Time in the West. The Dollars trilogy is obviously fantastic, but the sombre maturity of Once Upon a Time puts it way up at the top. Plus, casting Henry Fonda is the villain was genius.

Honorable mention goes to the Dollars trilogy, High Plains Drifter, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Shane, Stagecoach, and pretty much everything by Budd Boetticher.

The remake was pretty good though (especially the fire-fight at the end.)

Serenity/Firefly could be classed as a western so i pick that.
Uh, alright. I haven't seen either, so I can't really argue, but wouldn't that be science fiction?
