Wow....so much for Moviebob guaranteeing that there wouldn't be a sequel. Moviebob needs to learn to never underestimate a risk taking studio like Warner Brothers.

You... didn't actually listen to what he said, did you.

First of all, he said 'probably not', there was no guarantee.

Second of all, he said it would start with everyone involved claiming a sequel was happening. Later on, the director or someone would announce that it wouldn't happen.

So as far as Moviebob's prediction goes, this is right on the money.

I'm not saying he's right; just that this doesn't make him wrong.

Pretty much. If the studio didn't say it was "pursuing a sequel" while the film was still in theaters, it would be taken (justifiably) as a tacit admission that the movie is bad. Especially considering how blatant the sequel setup was.

Production budget: $200,000,000

Current box office return: 118,711,000 (worldwide)

Change from last week: Down 66% (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=32992)

At the current rate, a sequel won't happen. Competent studios don't make sequels to movies that turn a loss.

This isn't gonna be a popular opinion, but I liked the movie. I've been a GL fan for most of my life, and though the movie had some pretty glaring flaws, I got a big kick out of seeing it on the big screen. If Warner Bros. is building to a "Blackest Night" adaptation, as they seemed to hint, I don't care how bad it is, I'll still see it and probably enjoy it.

Really?

Even if they make more then the budget worth, they will need to make a substantial amount more if a sequel should be granted.

That movie blew dick.

He keeps saying that it won't happen. He even writing an obituary in the beginning of his Cars 2 review.

Everybody claims a sequel will happen before a release. Not many studios actually claim after a poor box office release. This shows that Warner Brothers is serious about making a sequel, despite the monetary loss.

Plus... just because a director says he's not going to do it, doesn't mean a movie won't happen. There's always the option of hiring a different director.

...wow, you completely missed the second line of the post you quoted, didn't you? He (Moviebob) stated that they will be going on for months about how a sequel will be made, and secondary and tertiary actors will announce that they haven't heard anything about a sequel, and then half a year or a year from now they'll finally drop the charade and say "Nope, no sequel, sorry!"

Also, the fact that it has barely made half of the money that it cost to make. It's not even just that the movie has been terribly received; The second, third, and fourth Pirates movies were terribly received by critics, but they made tons of money.

Watch the first minute and a half of this.

EDIT: I'm not saying that you are in the wrong for having this thread, but at the very least edit out the "So much for Moviebob blah de blah", because he is still technically correct in his predictions and it makes you seem like a pretentious jerk.

Well considering that Bob acts like a pretentious fan boy jerk as it is, it's fairly even.

I'd be all over it a sequel. Sinestro Wars anyone? I think the biggest problem in the GL movie was the desire to suit him with CGI. It cost a lot of money that didn't need to be spent. I mean who as a fan thinks of the comic book GL's wearing an other worldly flesh muscle suit thing? I always just took it for well fitting synthetics. Lose the CGI suit, get some writers who understand character conflict and for the love of all that is holy give the Guardians some freaking hair. The Jellyfish thing isn't working for me.

Every studioo says "we are going to do this" but very few actually do it. Where is our Halo movie? Deus Ex movie? Gears of War movie? Where is our Half Life movie? None of those happened because they died in production or were never worked on to begin with. The Exact same path moviebob said Green Lantern would take.
Though, on reflection, it's probably best none of those movies ever got made. Can't think of a good video game movie off the top of my head. It would just cause rage if they screwed up any of those movies (I'd like to add Mass Effect to the list).

Exactly. They will dance around the idea, only to revert to the same "sexy woman killing people" movie, an avatar wannabe, or even an expendables rip off. It always happens. Nerds don't spend the big bucks. Why should they? Games already beat the quality of movies tenfold. Who would watch transformers 3 when New vegas, Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, or even episode 3 is around?
Episode 3 will never be around. Gabe has threeaphobia. Can't wait for ME3, though. Just finished playing through all of ME2's DLC. Good stuff.

Prince of Persia, Silent Hill, Mortal Kombat, etc. They've made good video game movies, they just haven't made a great one yet.

The King Kong game for the movie that came out in 2005 was pretty awesome, imo. Almost great, almost.

I'm not sure whether to be surprised or not. As it is, the film has only made back about half of its budget, and is doing worse at the box office all the time, so the money would suggest that a sequel is impractical.

On the other hand, Warner Bros. really wants a new franchise to take over from Harry Potter, and they've been hoping this would be it for a long time. In that regard, it's understandable that they wouldn't want to just drop it after a single film.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see if the sequel gets made, and if it's better than the first one.
