Is it too late for GTA to revive this series? It's been three years, and there is competition from Saint's Row 3. I like the series but feel it a bit overused.

I wasn't aware that GTA was in a state that needed 'reviving'. Remind me when that happened again.

Yeah, I thought it was doing fine. Considering Rockstar has money-baths and all.

Again, I'm going to join in the bemusement at your notion that GTA needs reviving. It's been going delightfully!

(especially if you count Red Dead Redemption as a cousin of GTA!)

If I do recall, 3 years was the interval for each of the Halo games of the original trillogy, and that never counted as revived.

Er... what? They made IV (which is the highest rated game on Metacritic and sold wonderfully), then decided to make the best fucking western game ever, then L.A. Noire, and now they're going back.

I don't see the problem here.

If by "revive the series" you mean "win back the small audience that migrated to Saints row" then no, it's probably not too late, but why would they? It's not like they're doing badly, and there's nothing wrong with aiming at a different audience.

Besides, those who prefer Saint Row can play Saints Row, those who prefer Grand Theft Auto can play Grand Theft Auto, and those who enjoy both can play both. I'm part of the Saints Row crowd myself, but I don't see any issue here.

It's interesting seeing the difference in opinion on this thread and on the announcement news post. Here, nearly everyone thinks GTA IV was fine. There, nearly everyone thinks it was boring and didn't live up to Vice City, San Andreas, or even Saint's Row II (I agree with them, though RDR is still one of my favorite games). Two completely different nearly unanimous opinions, on different threads on the same site.

Does this mean that the news readers and forum posters don't mix very much?

Are you implying that I didn't read the OP or quoted post, or do you be trollin', they hatin'?

If I had to guess, I'd say it's more likely that it shows that people are more likely to weigh in on a topic they disagree on. Topic title here's negative, so the positive crowd jump in; on the more positive titled post, the negatives do the same. Does that say something about us? I'm not really qualified to say.

It's not too late at all for GTA. It's still a very popular series, and no matter what happens or how 5 actually turns out, it will still sell well. But for me ... well, I'd not say "Too Late", I'd say "Met with skepticism"

Wait has Rockstar released anything this year? Ooh wait LA noire, god that game was awful, I don't think this game is going to get much attention due to Saints Row 3, its rival. Yes even if Saints Row knocked off GTA IV, its still personally my favourite.

Revival? The last GTA game broke sales records and the series is still extremely popular. It doesn't need a revival and if it ever came into competition with Saints Row 3, it would end up blowing it out of the water in long term sales.

That wasn't Rockstar, that was Team Bondi in Australia. Rockstar only published it.

I can see why you think if this is make or break for gta, gta 4 seems to have split people as i know people who love it and people who hate it, i personally dont like it cause it was kinda boring and suffered from odd or dodgy controls, but that could have just been my experiance (anyone who says about patches will be ignored).

But as this announcement says nothing beyond there will be a trailer and the game is been made, i dont really care much for it.

besides, saints row are out gtaing gta as gta seems obssessed with been boring.

1. Where'd you get that impression (the first part of your two part)?
1.5 I am not implying that you didn't read the opening post, I was simply yanking your chain to make sure that you end up reading other posts in this thread, and not just reply to the OP and then hide away from the topic.
2. It is spelt "Trawling", not "trolling". =

Right, because after three years everything is totally dead!

You sound like a teenage girl, haha.

GTA ain't dead. It's going just fine. Rockstar made RDR after GTAIV so that's why it might seem like a long break. But it's not that long. Is TES dead? Because Oblivion is FIVE years old. OMFG ITS DEAD.

Um...what the fuck does Saints Row 3 have to do with GTA5? SR3 comes out very, very soon. GTA5 is just now being ANNOUNCED. It will be a year before we even see it. I'm sure everyone will have moved on from SR3 by then.

Hah, not a bad tactic. And as for where I got that impression... I don't know, gut feeling, I guess. It happens a lot on here. Meant no offense.

Buuut, as for your tactic, the thread seems pretty one sided anyways.
