Is it too late for GTA to revive this series? It's been three years, and there is competition from Saint's Row 3. I like the series but feel it a bit overused.
Reviving?

Grand Theft Auto (ala GTA4 generation) has gone for a gritty realism for storyline...

Saints Row is.... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH Check me out....and considering the Saints were a Gang -> a Franchise... I dont think they are even close anymore other then both being a Sandbox and the "Grand Theft Auto Clone" label (and getting it done right son!)

God almighty, yes! Yes! YES! I'd gladly skip out on Skyrim if it meant I could get the future finished version of GTA V!

Um...what the fuck does Saints Row 3 have to do with GTA5? SR3 comes out very, very soon. GTA5 is just now being ANNOUNCED. It will be a year before we even see it. I'm sure everyone will have moved on from SR3 by then.
speak for yourself buddy, im still playing coop saints row 2 with a buddy, and its just as fun and hilarious as it was when it came out, i think Saints row 3 will be fun for years, provided you take some breaks from playing it

Yeah,... I'm sure Rockstar is shaking in its boots at the thought of Saint's Row 3.

Oh and GTA4 beats SR2. *runs for the hills*

Despite the similarities, the GTA and Saint Row series are one two completely different roads. GTA will do fine, though I am hoping that they come up with something better than GTA IV. The only thing I loved about that game was the graphics.

The Saints Row games are far more "fun" than the GTA games, despite being no where near as polished. It's Monty Python's Holy Grail as opposed to Shakespeare's Hamlet.

RDR is far greater than GTA4 so I don't see any reason why they should go back to that well. They shouldn't let the negative press about LA Noire stop them from moving in different directions.

Wait has Rockstar released anything this year? Ooh wait LA noire, god that game was awful.
That wasn't Rockstar, that was Team Bondi in Australia. Rockstar only published it.
That rather depends on who you ask; its not like there aren't similarities in a number of aspects.

OT: As pointed out by, well, everyone else, the series is hardly dead, even if GTA IV was crap. Highest-rated game my arse.

I hope that they will still be using the euphoria engine. (I think that's what they used in GTA IV)
I really liked it...

I hope that it isn't as big of an annoyance as GTA IV. "But, wait! GTA IV had was awesome and had a compelling story!" The answer is no, sir. Actually the only reason I didn't like it was because of the physics. Every bit of movement took a bit to execute. It got annoying after a while.

I also hope for a map with a lot of wilderness like in San Andreas. God damn I love San Andreas.

Er... what? They made IV (which is the highest rated game on Metacritic and sold wonderfully), then decided to make the best fucking western game ever, then L.A. Noire, and now they're going back.

I don't see the problem here.
I prefered RDR tenfold to GTA, due to the fact I loved the spiritual prequels on PS2; and I've not even tried L.A.Noir as it's primary purpose was to test lip sync software - but if it scored well as a game & many of my friends recommend it, it can't have been half bad at all.

What I am annoyed with is this whole Max Payne 3 fiasco, especially considering I was an original fan back when he was on PC. I wish they'd just kept Max as he was & just bring him into the current gen consoles of 2011; in a dark, dingy city with a very emotional, depressing, story driven scenario. Not Rio and gang warfare... Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...

why does it need "reviving"? BoGT was amazing fun.
What makes you say "too late" in the title; can a IP be over used and at the same time not released soon enough? seems contradictory to me

GTA isn't really in need of a revival. It isn't pleasing everybody but nothing can to begin with and the few complaints are outweighed by the pros of the series.

That being said, I thought Saint's Row 2 was better than GTA IV. This time it could be the other way around, Rockstar can fully assess the SR3 situation before finishing GTAV and respond in kind. Maybe we'll see more wacky than was in the last one!

I for one am extremely excited by this.

The thing is there's just a very vocal minority of Saints Row fanboys who seem to somehow tie their sense of self worth to a videogame and get their knickers all in a twist at the thought that most people really enjoyed GTA IV and don't really care about Saints Row. GTA IV sold over 4 times as many copies as Saints Row 2. I shouldn't have said that though it'll set off the fanboys! *runs away*

Here take this flame shield you'll need it!! *gives flame shield*

OT: GTA V is something i've been waiting for since the last episode of liberty city. It doesn't matter if its better or worse than saint's row, GTA will always be good. and i don't know why everyone was calling the last one bland, i loved the story, and the wackiness was there but you had to make it for yourself. i prefer working for wackiness than it being giving it on a plate, makes it all the more funnier
