Oh, is it? I couldn't tell. LA doesn't really have the iconography of a New york or Hong Kong.
Maybe I watch too many movies but I can spot LA just as easily as NY or HK (and I'm not American). If anything though, the big VINEWOOD sign is a pretty big giveaway, don't you think?

II disagree with you in regards to their differences. The main point of both is essentially a sociopathy simulator. GTAIV was a little different story wise but for the most part they're both been about building up a crime syndicate and taking over a city. I don't really see where there's any fundamental, or even significant differences between the two. Apart from tone.
Well that's just silly. If you choose to use it like that then that's your prerogative. You can essentially do the same with any sandbox game. In fact it seems pretty immature to assume that's all the point of GTA is. Even the first sandbox entry of GTA III focused mainly on telling a story. The world serves as an open ended environment so players can have fun when not doing the story, but that isn't the main focus, is it?
Then you play Saint's Row and it is a polar opposite. It's not realistic at all and it makes it pretty clear that it's there for balls-to-the-wall ridiculous fun. Even the story's and missions are largely ludicrous.

Verdict? Better than I expected, not quite what I idealistically hoped, but then, that's because it's idealistic hoping.
Visuals stunning. Much brighter and more colourful than IV. City seems more vibrant. No idea about gameplay or anything else, but it's a good start.
I do have to ask though : Why repeat the "I don't really want to do this kind of stuff - I came here for a peaceful life" motivation from IV? It's clearly at odds to the player's motivation which is as much violence as possible.
It depends on the player really, that might be your motivation, but not everyones! Personally I don't spend that much time messing around in sandbox games like this. It doesn't hold my attention for long, maybe due to the lack of objective. I enjoy the narrative of the GTA games quite a lot though.
