Wow, thanks to everyone who replied. That really helped! =)
(See and I was hoping I wouldn't get sucked into it! I'm broke!)
Totally going to get it now.
Different from WoW, but I think it's time for a change.
Now I'm going to waste the rest of the day looking up the classes and figuring out which one I want to play.

Just to hype you a little more, here's the world content planned for release:

Look at the upper left hand side. See Divinity's Reach? It's about 5-6 times the size of Stormwind. See the area below it, Queensdale? It's about the size of the Barrens. It's also one of the smaller zones in the game, as you can see.

Probably the most PvE content included in an MMO release since WoW. And the world design is gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. It's actually a joy to explore.

This isn't including the 4 massive WvWvW zones, either.

No sub fee either! So, cancel WoW now and use the money you would have spent on the next two month's sub and you're halfway there :)

I don't want to take too much credits or anything but 8/28 is my birthday. Thanks Arena Net! Major MMO launch is a hard gift to top!

Can't wait. I loved the first one, I lost my account on it though so I'm looking forward to trying this out. (Even though I never understood the builds all that well.)

I can't help but take some sadistic pleasure in looking forward to this game's release. Partly because a lot of people have been hyping this with the usual new MMO hype (i.e. killing WoW, changing the face of MMOs forever). Therefore I will enjoy it when GW2's flaws present themselves and it topples from the ridiculously high pedestal people have set it on, and onto a perfectly good midpoint ledge.

All that nastiness said, I honestly am quite interested in trying it at some point, alas I financially destitute at this point in time so purchasing on release is out of the question. Hopefully I'll be able to get it for Christmas.

I've been considering getting this for awhile now and am happy to see it finally getting a release date. If I play I'll probably go Mesmer. Illusionists ftw.

Nothing will kill WoW. The same people who talk about GW2 or any other game "killing WoW" are the people who think the benchmark for MMO success is 10 million subs.

If GW2 can settle at around 400,000-500,000 players it will be a tremendous success, and as it has no sub fee I think it has a fair chance to do that.

It is not, however, going to be all things to all people. It's definitely still an MMO, and not without flaws. But it's nicely made MMO with much to recommend it, and that hasn't often been the case over the last 4-5 years, where many an MMO has launched content light, feature poor, or half finished. Or, in some notable cases, all three.

Mesmers need a lot of work. As do Engineers. I'm hopeful by the time BWE3 rolls around in late July that both classes will have received a much needed re-imagining.

Well, if you got a preorder there is a Beta weekend coming up July 21-22. Also the preorder headstart is 3 days early, so we should be playing on Aug 25! I am looking foreward to that weekend head start.

Super excited, thought I did see some balancing issues in the beta...

Or maybe not. I dunno, my friends and I all played as Guardians and absolutely slaughtered everything the game threw at us :/

We were doing level 19-20 quests at like level 13-14 lol

No pre-order, I'm excited and being able to play it a little a few months early would be great, but that edition is 3 times the cost of the standard one. Besides which 2 days here and 3 days there would only whet my appetite. I'm wondering when it will be up and stable on a long term basis because I'm going to play the crap out of it then.

Wohoo! That's the week before my next term begins, but at least I'll know better than to make any other plans that week...

Depends on how you define "stable."

The game hadn't crashed on me once, they seem to have gotten their low framerate problems under control, and the stress testing fixed alot of the problems with instances failing to load.

However, I don't think the game will be 100% by release. I only had around 45 minutes of play time for yesterday's stress test and still managed to find cause to fill out 2 bug reports.

Tons of balancing and spawn issues that need to be looked at.

You have to make sure you pre-purchase not pre-order. Pre-orders get you a one day head start. Pre-purchasing will get you a 3 day head start,an exclusive in-game item (a ring) and the chance to grab a cool name(as long as it's not taken by a GW1 player). You'll also be able to play in the July 20-22 BWE (beta weekend event).

The stress test was still the BWE2 client, so BWE3 in late July should have a month of bug fixes, balance and optimization applied, and then whatever kind of day one patch/final polish they can put on it between then and launch.

I certainly don't expect a bug free launch but hopefully it'll be a bit less rickety than BWE2.

As long as I don't get an error 37 I'll be happy.

But between how smooth the beta events have gone for me (from a connection point of view) and the head start letting players join the game in waves, I don't forsee huge login issues. As for balance and bugs, I see that as a never ending fight in MMOs.
