I recently bought Guild Wars, and I love it! Its free! Its pretty, the quests are fun and although some people can be a bunch egotistical wankers, I do love the rpg elements and the choices you can make!

Whats your opinion?

Joe :)

i think if you need a great guild, the one i am in is amazing, and it would be great to have a fellow escapist in there.

When I played I thought it was fun at first but then the difficulty took a huge leap out of the tutorial and made soloing annoying and almost impossible.

This drove me away because I want the option to team up with players, not be forced to do so. Of course there is always the option to team with the lower level, stupid, and altogether ineffectual NPCs. Not to mention the meager EXP you get is divided, worse considering the drop-off rate and many hard battles getting you altogether nothing.

I did find the environments enjoyable, although I could hardly take time to enjoy it with out being caught in an ambush.

I dunno, I may need to go back and play it more recently though I doubt too much has changed.

Cooperative Online Role Playing Game. That is how developer ArenaNet classifies Guild Wars. What did you expect?

I like the fact that soloing is difficult, but not impossible. It makes grouping purposeful. I don't know, I just like working with other people. Plus, it's probably the only MMO with a plot.

I liked it really well, until I upgraded my video card. Now Guild Wars and a couple of other games won't play on my computer without all kinds of graphical glitches and "artifacts". The rest of the games I play on my computer play much better though than they did with the old video card so I'm not switching it back.

I love PC games, but sometimes, I'm tempted to give up on them and go strictly with consoles. It's times like this when a game won't play anymore that drives me nuts. I like tinkering with my PC, but sometimes, I just want to buy a game, stick it in a console and just play. With computers, you have to check the system requirements before you buy it. Even if the game has requirements under what your specs are, the game still might not play well because of something else you have installed on the PC. Before I built my new PC, I had one that had DVD drives that were incompatible with some EA games. Drove me nuts before I figured out why I could install the games but not play them. Nearly boycotted EA games until I tried them in my new computer I built. They play fine in this one. Still kinda stinks how much more complicated PC gaming is than consoles though.

I used to play a lot, but not as much anymore. It's a good game and I absolutely loved the community. It was The Escapist of MMo's. Fun, Friendly and people were generally nice. I don't think I ever saw the word noob or even swear words.

I don't really like the grinding required in all MMORPGs, so while I own a copy of Guild Wars, you'll be hard pressed to actually find me logged on.

I found soloing to be a pain. If you went out absolutely alone, you got good XP but you'd get swarmed and die often, and if you had those bot things (the name escapes me) then you wouldn't die very often, but XP would slow down to a trickle. Getting to the next level soon became like filling a bathtub with a dripping tap.

Guild wars sux!

Now m allowed to say that, i have rank 9, I have 4 sets of fissure of woe armor, i have the rarest swords in game and i have amassed a wealth of over 2 million gold.

That took over 4,000 hours, iuno why i botherd, i coulda been playingwow or...something...

The reasons it sucks:

Easy to level
Easy to solo
Hard to make money
PVP is a joke because of meta builds
The game feels too thick
the list goes on if you want me to finish
Of all these things you listed only the unbalanced PVP striks me as an actual bad point of the game. Perhaps you come from Bizzaro world where player accessability is a bad thing and sex is the ultimate form of torture reserved for the worst of criminals.

There is no jumping in Guild Wars!
that's pretty much my greatest complaint, oh, and the game gets boring and slow after the tutorial.

I loved the game for the fact that the focus was less on level (a max of 20 with the original) and grinding, and more focused on your choice and implementation of skills. I felt like I was being rewarded more for being smart and clever, instead of grinding the hell out of the game.

Guildwars is great for being free and not having to grind for levels with everything apart from your first profession being totaly replaceable and equipment is very simple and easy to obtain and pvp isn't just about having high levels and elite items and if your character is rubbish there is no need to make a new one just change it.
Nightfall is the best one so far and making money is not hard because you don't need to worry, you don't need to repair weapons or eat food, and armour/weapons is a one time only purchase sure their is the elite armour but it only looks funky it provides no bonus over the basic armour crafted from steel ingots so it's there if you want it but at its core their are very few hoops to jump, hell create a pvp character and you can start playing right away (automatic level 20)

Also you can swap around your skill points for free on the fly in any town, so you don't need a million alts.

It isn't even that imbalanced. Copying someone else's build can only take you so far, especially if you don't even look at it critically (as in what it is that actually makes it good, what are its weaknesses and so on).

Leveling isn't even the point of the game... and I will never figure out how "I can play solo" is a negative in any game. Especially when there are timed missions and all sorts of challenges you can hone and take on as a team.
