I've played guitar for a bit over 8 years, and I thoroughly enjoy playing Guitar Hero games.
However, I also hate the fuckwits that think Guitar Hero is the same as real guitar. Play my arrangement of Fly Me To The Moon on a real guitar, douchebag. You'll have alot of fun working out how to play the first chord.

Okay i was talking to a mate of mine (He is a die-hard GH player) and he was bragging about 100%ing Raining Blood by Slayer on Expert (No small task). I was fine with this......until he started acting like he was a pro who knew everything there is to know about guitar.

It's halo MLG syndrome all over again. As an actual Guitarist (Playing for 9 years now) it annoys the hell out of me to see Nerds like him acting like rockstars. His head is so far up his own ass that he can't realise that he is just pressing buttons a plastic toy in rapid succession.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Yeah well, you're just pressing strings on a wooden toy in rapid succession :\

Of course he cant play a real guitar like you can, but you probably cant play Guitar Hero like he can either. Why is one better than the other? As long as you just play other peoples music its the same. The only thing that can set you apart is that you can be creative in your playing and make your own music. But correct me if I'm wrong: this is also possible in one of the newer versions of GH?

Your attitude is "elitist" and doesnt suit you. If he acts like he knows everything about guitars...well I cant judge him based on what you say. If you actually know a lot about guitars thats fine, and if you know about how these solos are played "for real" good for you, but his knowledge of how they are played on GH is just as valuable as your knowledge.

Learning about guitars with GH as a starting point is just as good as learning about guitars with a real guitar as a starting point. What matters is what you actually learn I guess.

Wow, I thought this was a necropost, because this is old news, brudda.

I know, though. It's so damn annoying, and I don't even play the guitar!

I have friends like this and holy shit its annoying, But the thing is its not on expert but ON EASY.

Friend1: dude i played the metal last night and actually finished it, man im awesome
Me: whoa on expert?
Friend1: no on easy
Friend2: wow i suck at the metal
Me: wow your shit at guitar hero. I could play the song on a real guitar blind folded
Friend1: real guitar is for faggots
Friend2: ya lol

Im not even fucking kidding you. Those were the exact words
This is where you respond "Really? Because I bet Carlos Santana gets more (euphemism for female anatomy) than you'll even DREAM of seeing" and then walk away.

Can't say i've experienced that, what I have seen though is people who know guitar going "that songs fucking easy to play" when someone does marginally well, then proceeds to not play the song on guitar... Or after weeks of badgering plays it, and does it terribly.

Though what you mention about people thinking they are rockstars sounds quite dickish, but I guess you'd have to be abit of a dick to begin with to think that.

But its the same with everything kid plays a Shooter [mw2 as a reference] He thinks he some Super solider who can defend to World from Evil people and they usually rant on to army air force navy how he knows whats happening blah blah blah

some one plays a racer they really think they can race against real people

This is just example i don't think that everyone that plays a video game gets cocky about the Games and real Life

I once made the mistake of joking that you can get better at rock star if you actually know how to play guitar (it was a joke, i know it's false) while a friend who plays guitar was nearby and he was pissed and started to lecture me about the difference.
Meanwhile the closest thing that goes towards the topic is my friend who kills on drums but he's actually a drummer so i guess it's alright. He also sings decently(but only if you have earplugs) but on rockband that's not saying much.

I've not run into that, but most of my friends are musicians. Regardless, I've less a problem with that than with people who act uppity with comments like "guitar hero sucks, play a real guitar!". It's not one or the other people, video games are still fun. I'm a local guitar teacher and I really enjoy guitar games, but why wouldn't I? It combines my two of my three greatest passions in life.

You should introduce him to guitar. I was a die hard GH player and it was incredibly easy to learn to play guitar after that.

I know a few guys who play the trumpet, they're insane at Guitar Hero. Neither of them can play more than Smoke On The Water on the guitar. Most of my friends are instrumentalists (or vocalists) so they would never say something along those lines.

Besides, GH is very fun when you're drunk (a piece of plastic isn't as expensive as a real guitar), so I see it as it is: a game. A repetitive game that is quite boring unless you're drunk, but a game nonetheless.

It's not supposed to, really.

I don't understand why people say "Play a real guitar!"

If I wanted to, I would. Hell, I don't even like GH/RB, and I seem to understand this.
