Get a book, get Guitar Pro (I won't say illegally, but I'll imply it... with this bracket sentence), and download guitar pro files and lessons made for the program and work with that.

When a little better, get backing tracks and/or play with tracks you have. And a little while after that (or during), meet other musicians and Jam.

My guitar is an ESP LTD M-50, which is lovely.
I prefer to play rock/metal.
This. Every time. I want to get an ESP, but I'm indecisive between the AX series or the F series. That or a Jackson Kelly. They're all so bloody gorgeous :p
F series is pretty damn sexy. Havn't played any of those though. I can speak for ESP generally though, the sound is amazing. Suprisingly nice clean tone aswell.
Well, they have made signatures for such legends as Metallica, Children of Bodom, and a long list of etcs so you know
AND RICHIE SAMBORA!!
God I love that guitar.

The best thing to do is to learn your open chords, that way you can start playing along with popular music. Look up the House of the Rising Sun chords online, and their fingerings. That song has most of the important chords you'll need to get started
The problem is that i don't understand the guitar tabs that you find online.
Like these tabs, i really don't understand them

-------------------------------------------------------16b17~---
-------------/18-17-------15b16d-(15)b16---18-17----------------
--------------------17-14------------------------17-14----------
----------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------
Basically, The bottom line is the low E string (the lowest note string) and the numbers represent the fret numbers. The (b) indicates a bend, Although if youve never played guitar id stay away from something this complex straight off.

If you need any tab related assitance send me a PM :)
Well,i know not to play that song because that just have frustration and failure right away :p

Requesting additional info on your EC-1000. What sort of tone do you get? And how does it sound clean? How much did you pay for it?

I'm agreeing with the bass thing..

I have a Fender Jazz 24 V (thats a five string Fender Jazz with 24 frets) and its aweesome =D

Because of the active pickups I can go from a high treble punk sound to a high bass reggae sound like that. I leave my amp EQ flat nowadays (maybe with a slight high cut to get rid of my buzz) and get my tone from my bass.

I play everything because I am studying at uni, so far this year I have played 50s rock, 60s motown, coutry, reggae, disco, and a great deal of funk. In my spare time I like to play pretty much all of those with a bit of prog thrown in.

I enjoy Bass =)

I like Les Pauls, they have a more varied sound. Although I would like to have a John 5 Telecaster. Also, I mostly play metal, like John 5, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Trivium and Ministry.

Ohh wow.. Not my first choice of guitar.. Ever..

I have never liked BCs, they are way to pointy and from what I have heard, they sound pretty cheap. Really, there are soo many better metal guitars out there and none of them look as silly.

I have an Epiphone Explorer, the explorer is a much sought after shape, and they tend to be expensive. Most people, like myself, would be rather fond of the Les Paul.

As for brands, Gibson, ESP, Fender, LTD, Epiphone, Ibanez and quite a few other names tend to hold a good standing in the market.

I own 3 guitars, Gio Ibanez GAX30, Epiphone Explorer, and an Aria Stratocaster. For amps, I have a Marshall Stack and an Ibanez 10watt amp......okay, well, the Marshall is a portable amp, totals at 4 watts, maybe higher, but it's still a stack.

This one was a budget one, i could only afford cheap at the time and it seemed like a good choice for my style of playing. And whilst it does indeed sound a bit cheap, it delivers what i want from it. And i happen to think it looks kinda cool, i love the headstock.

But i've been scraping for a Dean, which as i mentioned will hopefully be getting soon. I fell in love with Dean guitars after i played lot's of Ml's and a V. It was either a Dean or Ibanez. Unfortunetly, i've never had the chance to try an ESP so i don't have an opinion on them.

Ibanez RG, im trying to learn legato and sweep picking but i mostly play thrash on it, the neck has such a low action and an extremely thin neck.

Im also trying to get an ESP eclipse 2 since i want a strat and a les paul type guitar but they're really hard to find in AUS.

Its cool and sexy but its an ltd, which is a shame because it uses cheaper wood, you should of saved for an esp, it has a very warm sound to it but its also perfect for thrash and legato, just depends if you get it fit with stock pups or seymour duncans.
