Are you for or against gun?

Now as you may or may not know the uk has been de-guned you can own a gun but only after jumping a huge hurdle, and even then you can only get a few certain types of guns.

Now are you for or against this sort of thing, I have been thinking. You reduce the amount of guns so there is less gun crime that makes sence less guns less crime.
In the perfect world that is the case, but If those who do gun crime get guns though the black market or get them in other ways by-passing the laws then what happens when regular people with good intentions can no longer have guns...Who has the guns.

If you were going to rob a bookies at gun point would you be more questionable about doing so if the bookie had a gun itself to defend the store?

Does that sound about right to you or are guns still a bad thing.

Guns are a deterrent for crime. Would you go rob a house where you know they own a gun? Of course not. You'll go two houses down where you know they don't.

Gun laws really, in the end, only hurt honest citizens.

Think about it. Criminals break the law. If they want a gun, you better believe they'll find a way to get one.

The great thing about conceal carry laws is that a criminal now has no idea who may have a gun on their person.

I think that you should be able to defend your own home in case things go awry.

Making guns illegal means only criminals have guns. This does not help reduce crime, it gives the criminals security knowing the person they are attacking does not have a gun to defend themselves. Making things illegal so criminals can't have them makes no sense.

If guns are responsible for killing people, then cars are responsible for drunk driving, and pencils are responsible for misspelling words.

Only bad people will do bad things involving firearms... usually.

Well, theres the point of if its too easy to get guns, stupid people gets guns and do stupid stuff, just waching some of those cop based realety shows from america proves that. Now if its hard to get guns, then there still will be people who get ilegal guns, but that wil also bring about a bigger reaction from the goverment when they get punished. In norway you can own a rifle if youre a member of a shooting club, and there are strict rules, and to get a gun licence your backgroud is checked, such things helps a lot. Its not a perfect system, but what system realy is?

People are always going to find something to use as a weapon. If all firearms were taken away and the only guns were in the possession of the military you would now have two problems; the government is more like to oppress the people if their ability to defend themselves is lessened. And your other problem is that criminals would simply find something else to use as a weapon.
one of the great things about firearms is they do not require you to be in good physical condition to use it for self defense thus providing an effective means of protection for the weaker members of society who more often than not are the victims of violent crimes

A criminal will always find a way to get a gun if they so choose, gun control only hurts honest citizens.

In my opinion make gun laws like my home state of pure awesome, open carry only and no alcohol.

I'm all for laws restricting gun access and use. I live in Canada, and it works pretty damn well here.

As someone who has been involved in a shooting, I still have no real ambition to own a gun. The exp showed me that they are incredibly more dangerous than people think, especially in the hands of someone who doesnt know how to handle one properly (although for me that was a good thing) You would be stunned at how easily bullets fly errant and ricochet off things.

Anyway.. Outlawing guns wouldnt have kept me any safer in my situation, and actually could have been more fatal had a gun be harder to get ahold of.

I think we might want to enact a few more saftey checkpoints surrounding them, but there is no way in hell I think outlawing them is ever going to be a good idea.

Seriously, when the zombies come what are you going to do with no guns around? Be like the UK and have everyone run to the local pub 5 miles away to find the only gun in a 30 mile radius? TO THE WINCHESTER!!

I have no problem with guns, my problem is with people who use them irresponsibly(is that a word?). People seem to forget that guns are a weapon, and i'm sick of hearing stories where a child has found daddies loaded gun and shot themselves in the head. There is no excuse for that. People need to be educated at least a little about guns if they want one, at least so they know how to maintain the things properly.

I'm lucky that where i live (Australia) anyone who wants a gun has to take a test to prove they are not completely brain-dead on the subject (One of the true of false questions was as follows. 'Is loading and firing a rifle and effective way of clearing a barrel that is blocked with mud?' Because people will try this sadly.)

For.

Interestingly enough, firearms have never been restricted in the UK to prevent crime, but rather, for the exact same reason they are legal in the US.

The government over here restricted civil access to firearms following the first world war, as they were afraid that people would rise up against the government, like in Russia. In the US, on the other hand, ownership of firearms is allowed constitutionally, so that people can overthrow the government, should they become too corrupt.

Does outlawing the ownership of guns reduce the number of crimes in which guns are involved? Well, yes (obviously). But is it right to outlaw fertilizer, because it might be used to grow drugs? Is it right to outlaw knives, because they could be used to stab people? Is it right to outlaw hammers, because they could be used to beat someone to death?

Criminals may use a weapon, but the weapon isn't what makes them a criminal.

I live in the UK - gun crime isn't really a problem. We have a lot less of it than in Switzerland and the US - countries with lower and higher populations respectively, but with far freer gun laws. I don't see any reason to change things. I don't typically think that curtailing freedoms is the way to go, but I consider the retail of tools used explicitly as weapons as an exception.

I have no problems with guns up to fully automatic/armor piercing, although possibly with certain licenses.

This seems to reflect the attitude of criminal, according to a friend who spent time in jail statutory. No I don't know the details, but I believe the ages were fairly close.
