What do you think of the complete epicness that is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann?

In my opinion, it is the best anime I HAVE EVER SEEN, with explosions that make Transformers 2 look like EyeToy: Play.

Why yes, it is a very enjoyable show with many deep characters. But mostly explosions and stupidly big robots.

Most people I've seen talk about it here seem to call it the 'Manliest Anime Ever' or something like that.

Indeed. But the lesser character was still pretty cool, he just wasn't god is all.

I'm guessing the comparison to Transformers was too much.

And yes, it is the manliest anime ever. And the stupidly big robots only make it more cool.

Gurren Lagann was pretty epic but the development and pacing gave me a headache, just so different from the stuff I've usually watched.

And NGE didn't get insane by the end? It's just what Gainax does. Somebody just made the mistake of asking them to make a Saturday morning cartoon.

NGE was different. It turned out how it did because Anno recently got out of depression when he was put in charge of NGE and he wanted to share, more or less, how he got out of it.

Nah, it isn't a fanboy thread. I just wanted to share something that entertained me with the rest of the people here.

It may not be the greatest anime of all time, but it is extremely difficult to find an anime which boasts as much action and heart wrenching emotional manipulation as Gurren Lagann.

Sure you could go on about how it seems the story was written by an 8 year old who has watched too much Power Rangers growing up and believes that the heroes are always able to pull a victory out of their asses, but it's really hard to feel anything other than energized to listen to Simon give a long-winded dialog as to how the one with the biggest heart and spirit will always prevail while ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH blares in the background.

Gurren Lagann isn't so much a show as it is an experience.

The end of NGE was only so incredibly confusing and hard to understand because Gainax completely ran out of budget. The movie End of Evangelion is Gainax making amends for that and showing what the true ending is.
