I have a problem, I really want to get TF2 on steam, but alas, I am 14 so I don't own a credit card. I asked my mum if she could let me use her card to buy it(because its at a low price right now) and she said 'maybe'. She implied that she doesnt trust steam even though I showed her a LOT of security policies that they have but still, no.

If anyone can help me out, please find some facts/statistics from major companies to help me persuade her.

Buy it retail.
What a simple and sensible solution!
Probably a bit more expensive, but you can get it a heck of a lot sooner without having to try to persuade your mom to do anything but drive you to the mall.

There you go. Problem solved.

Wait, since when did England become anything other then a first world country?
It's a top-selling PC FPS. If you can't find it retail, then you must not be looking in the right stores, or very hard. Look at this guy:

I live in england too and I have definatly seen copies of TF2. Generally you have to go to the larger stores to see it though.
He found it. He lives in England too.
It's there.

How about using paypal with steam? That's what I do. You don't have to store your personal information on steam when you buy which is nice. Course, that means you have to trust payapl, but maybe your mother would trust a business site more than a gaming one? Worth a shot though. Or, do you have any friends that buy games from steam? If so, maybe you could give them the cash or a check for the game and they could buy it as a gift for you.

Edit - or tell you mother that a lot of people on this site regularly buy from steam and we're ok. At least, I think we're ok. We are, aren't we? Hey - start a new poll thread - do you buy from steam. See how many yeses you get and show that to your mother.

Oh god! I live in England! I just looked out my window and there's been an apocalypse, a gaming apocalypse! All the game stores are gone, it's horrible, I don't think I can go on.

They DO sell it in most game stores in the UK. The GAME near me isn't the biggest I've ever seen but I always see lots of copies of it. So what if you have the entire contents of the Orange Box sans TF2? Orange Box is cheap as chips; it's barely any more expensive than stand-alone TF2.

I think the main feedback from this thread is: ACTUALLY FUCKING LOOK for it in shops. Don't just say it isn't there.

Show her the fact that there are almost always 2,000,000+ satisfied customers on it at all times, and there has yet to be any fatal issues with privacy, and still many more who are not always on.
