I know some guys who play as girl characters in various MMO's/RPG's and I have always wondered why?

Would anyone like to shed some light on this subject?

I do it sometimes, when either I'm bored of playing a guy or I'm curious as to what happens if you play as a girl. Like if there are any differences(other than you playing a girl), like extra abilities, speech choices, etc.

Pretty much this.

Plus Jennifer Hale is just a better VA than Mark Meer. Sorry Mark, you're good and all, but you don't hold a candle to Hale :(

This, and the fact that female characters tend to be more stylish.

that's basically why I do it...Also, I don't play MMOs so, I don't run the risk of being hit on by anybody, mistaken for a girl and, being reported for making an idiot feel stupid

Ninja'd by the first reply. I also got this from a guildmate a couple of years ago.

I always play my first character in any game a guy, then any replays/extra characters I normally use a lady.

Well, sometimes I decide to play as a guy, but that tends to be online games, where if I stick to my true gender, people just bug me...
But luckily I can play as my own gender on offline games. And it makes no difference to how much ass I can kick.
So if I play as a male character, I do it for my own convenience >.> Less idiots chasing me around then.

I second that, man-shepherd is pretty wooden. I play as both if we are talking about RPG's and on those occasions that I have played MMO's then I just kind of toss a coin.

Exactly, or just very much what I think.

In most games the females are just better looking than the males.

and seeing as most games put the camera behind your character I agree with the other guys that I would rather be staring at a girls arse than a guys.

I like to test out the character creation on both genders.
Then I play whichever character I think is better constructed.

If there is no real character customisation, though, I tend to just grab the male character.

Exactly, If it was online I would go with my own gender. For single player, meh. I'm not too into the whole role-playing parts so it's aesthetics for me.

Because some RPGs implement seduction skills or whatnot and there are more male storekeepers to get discounts from than female.

In the case of Mass Effect, this is my main reason, but I also like role-playing, and sometimes I do such as a female character.

Mark Meer sounds like a drunk monkey.

It's like how one reads books that feature females as protagonists. I see most games as a story focusing around a certain character, and do not usually see the character as an extension of myself.
