Hello, Ben here, I'm new to the forums -- mostly joined due to the excessive amount of enjoyment that is brought to me each week by watching the Zero Punctuation video series.

Being a game addict, I thought I'd post about an MMO that has been keeping me fairly busy lately: Hack Wars. This is a game about Hacking, and I think particularly appeals to career programmers like myself -- quoting their website::

Notable Game Features:

- In game programming language.
- Battle other computers in a complete PvP environment.
- Setup AI/Scripts to defend your account (and gain XP) while offline.
- Create a website in the fully functional in-game virtual Internet.
- Collect powerful Hardware for your computer off NPCs.

And of course, the obligatory screen-shot:

Game Website:
http://www.hackwars.net

If you decide to checkout the game, my in-game name is Johnny_Heart -- hopefully I see you around, it's just gone to open beta and the chat can be a bit sparse.

Chances are I'd get into it. I enjoyed slave hack for a while, but that got pretty reptitive, and didn;t have much freedom in gameplay. Is this much different? Or is it more 'click the right boxes again and again in a format which could be any boring online game, but with hacking face-paint'?

Actually someone at my university is currently working on a modified version of the classic introversion game "Uplink" - which is intended to be MMO. Looks pretty good though I must say.

Great concept i think if it can have, with good enough support a good small but loyal fanbase since it has it's own internet and things like that.

Being able to type with the appropriate spelling, punctuation and grammar does NOT make you a bot, just a person with a brain.

Speaking of their 'own internet'. They just added domain names yesterday, it's kind of funny -- it's one of their ideas of a business model -- sorry 'porn.hw' is already registered.

All looks a tad complicated for someone like me; whose more likely to play Forum Warz than anything this advanced, heh.

Yah, it's not necessarily for the feint of heart, easier than similar games like Dark Signs (command line based) though, if you're a nerd looking for a hacker game like me.

To me this looks like it could be totally fascinating or a devastating snore-fest, depending on how well everything is implemented.

I looked into the site and I like the basic concept. To be honest, If I were to play game with the theme of hacking, I'd rather have it be something I can learn from. But again... love the idea:) I may at least try it later tonight.
