Sup. This is a thread for all of you who are interested in the Japanese art of haiku. Or poetry in general. "But" (you may say) "I's not a poet-type, what can I get from it?" You don't have to be, or ...not really. See, the haiku is really simple and anyone can make one. All you have to remember is that a haiku is made up of three lines. The first line is five syllables, the second line is seven syllables, and the third line is five syllables. The topic can be whatever you want it to be.

All the haiku I post will be of my own mind, unless I give credit where it is due. And without further adu, haiku:

Stretched across the plain
Flying insects of all kinds
Searching for a feast.

Apple blossoms green
Soon to be ready flowers
Summer bares rich fruit.

Flying to the wall
Circles the country China
Sparrow to its nest.

Wasp yello and black
Flying over grass and me
They gather in pines.

Barron and war torn
I came expecting little
I find even less.

Haikus are simple
Though don't always make much sense
Refrigerator.

I'm not sure if that is the original word for word, but I've always loved it.

Well then, this is sweet!
Haiku Battle [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.111584-Haiku-Battle] was damn fun!
Hope this thread does well.

As for my haiku,
I can't think of anything.
Unmotivated.

Here's a bunch I wrote for class. 5 a day for 3 days. My favorite is the last one.

My alarm goes off
I leap awake to get it
Right into a wall

Roses are red and
So on. I know, I?m lazy
Come on, just sue me

Cold lovely morning
All the trees outlined in snow
Going back to bed

Shoveling the drive
Still somehow, I do love snow
Thanks Bill Watterson

Thirty three degrees
Rain won?t put off my homework
Please subtract one more

Blanket is frozen
Must shower with hot water
The pipes are frozen

Explorer crashes
Upgrade vista to seven
And it still crashes

My mother driving
Taking me to school, talking
Two haiku to go

Little dog, big heart
Ev?ry day his favorite
Better than a cat

Got a trampoline
Jump after jump higher still
Next stop, hospital

In a falling dream
You must hope it is not you
Rolling off the bed

Out of five haiku
Assigned for homework, always
One is a cop out

College does not teach
At least, not ?til you unlearn
What high school taught you

If there?s a shooting
I?m sure the media will
Blame videogames

Anything can be
Something inappropriate
If that?s what she said

Yesterday, I ate,
a poodle, it was yummy,
popsicle kittens.

The consistence was,
not very likeable, no.
It was gravy-shaped.

Gravy-shaped, you ask?
It is very abstract, yes.
Unexplainable.

I dislike Haikus.
I don't see the art in them.
I prefer rhyming.

My favourite poem
Has to be the Limerick.
That shit is awesome!

But I can't finish
This reply without quoting
An awesome website:

Rockpapercynic:
All the lines are seven long
Unless they are five.

It is somewhat sad
You waited until college
To put it to use
