Does anyone else here think that we'll never see Half Life 2 Episode 3. I had my hopes up but as time passes im beginning to doubt it. No trailers, screenshots, previews. Any thoughts on this?

Considering the money making massiveness of episode 1 and 2 i think we can garrentee we'll see 3 eventually. I only hope that they take their time with it and do it justice.

Aww, man, now you made me paranoid that there's a 0.1% chance Valve will screw it up! Oh my lord they'd better make it go down in history.

If it's taking this long for Valve to release another HL game, then it means that they are making HL3, not ep3. but I can't wait for it to come out! :D

Christ! Do you really need screenshots to convince you that valve is making the ep3 of one of their best games?

It is taking quite some time, but I'm willing to wait for quality. I wonder if they are solely concentrating on making episode 3 at this point. There is of course the Portal 2 theory, but it makes me wonder if they're also working on a new game engine.

As Valve don't seem like the kind of developer to just use the latest Unreal engine that most others seem to do.

I don't mean to nitpick and I don't remember where I saw the quote, but valve pretty much considers Half-Life 2: Episodes 1, 2, and 3 to essentially be Half-Life 3. And game development often does take a long time. I loved Half-Life 2 and I just had a chance to pick up the Orange Box for the 360 last Christmas. I adored both episode 1 and 2. I really enjoyed their story telling and environments. I think Valve produces top quality work and I would rather wait a little longer for them to pump out the next installment than to rush it and just get it out asap. I'm sure they know this and they have high standards for their work, which I think is why it's taking so long. It's coming, just be patient.

Remember how people had to wait something like 10 years for Half Life 2 to come out? Remember, Valve follows a "it's done when it's done" policy, and it's been helping them turn out great game after great game.
And I know that there was concept art released a while back. You might want to look them up.

Why would they simply stop making it. the orange box came out what just last year give them time.
It makes 2 years this October since it got released. Lombardi said that Ep3 is probably going to take more time to release than the time betewen HL2 to Ep1 and Ep1 to Ep2, whihc is roughly 3 years. So yeah...

Nah, they arent making a new gaming engine. Ep3 will probably be the last Source game to get Engine update tho.

After Ep3 release I can see Valve start working on a new gaming engine and release a new game in....2014-2016!

Sigh... the episodes are Half-Life 3, you guys. Valve decided that it would take waaaay too long to develop Half-Life 3, so they split it into Episodes.

Valve takes forever, but that means when they finally do get the game out, it's unbelievably good. I say wait it out. Even if the next thing out is Half Life 3, and it is as good as the first two, I don't care. It's more HL.

E3's coming up, and if we're lucky we'll get some previews or at least info there. It's Valve though, so I can't say I'd be surprised if they went and kept us in the dark for another year.

Yatzee pretty much said Valve has the short and episodic gameplay down alright, but releasing them in less time is somehow beyond them.

I really hope they dont give us too many physics engine puzzles, they're fun, but way too over-used. Really looking forward to Ep. 3...
