I agree that hl2 is not a great game but it does have a great engine behind it and some of the best voice acting i`ve ever heard.

To the OP. USE THE SEARCH BUTTON
do you realise how many threads there are that are based completely on Bagging halo or HL2, its old. we get that you don't like it, but don't start another pointless flame war just to get your point across as being superior. Everyone has their own opinion and with a topic such as HL2 (or Halo, its adversary) You are bound to get flames from both directions. especially when you practically insult a game in an OP rather than discuss the pros and cons.
I wasn`t aware of any HL bashing threads, noe the halo ones however are ten a penny.

Half Life 2 is a great adventure, and a cool series of setpieces and some sci-fi lore, but as far as FPS standards go it's pretty lacking in my opinion. Let's take a look:

Weapons - Arguably the most important part of an FPS. Most of HL2's weapon feel weak and powerless (especially the pistol and the smg,) except maybe for the revolver, which has a pathetic ammo capacity and is hardly ever needed thanks to the dumb-as-rocks enemies which are content to slowly strafe or run right at you while shooting. The gravity gun is cool, but it's more of a gimmick than a weapon as far as I'm concerned.

Game progression - The game basically rushes you from one setpiece to another, with the occasional locked in area while you listen to characters drone about crap you don't care, all the while you're jumping around and crowbarring anything breakable in frustration. The only time in the game I really felt like there was any tactics or intense action was the assault on Nova Prospekt, which was cool, but doesn't make up for the rest of the game.

I could go on, but I'm assuming at this point already half of you are not even going to bother reading a 'wall of text' of this size, so let's see if we can get some debate going about this.
This thread is trolltastic.

Personally, i hated the game. The episodes were a bit better, mainly because Valve didn't spend the first half of them masturbating over the physics engine. I admit the story was good, some of the characters were decent and there were some great set pieces, but the main feeling i come away with every time i play it is frustration.

Take the driving sections for instance. There is a reason most FPS's switch to third person for driving. In first person on a TV, you have almost no peripheral vision which makes accurately controlling a vehicle nigh-on impossible, especially when they handle like submarines. And making us drive the thing, dodge explosive barrels and rocks, aim and fire a machine gun at a helicopter that's dropping crap-tons of mines that you also need to dodge is just plain evil.

The puzzles also irritated me. There seemed to be absolutely no point to most of them (the damn see-saw comes to mind). They added nothing to the gameplay, just got in the way of the flow and momentum.

It had some of the most annoying enemies that i've ever faced. Headcrabs that hide round corners, jump in your face and bring you straight down to 1 health, despite your suits 'shields'? Dick move.

I enjoyed some moments of it, especialy the last level with the uber gravity gun, but in between the awesome parts there were huge sections of crap.

THIS IS MY OPINION. IT IS NOT ME STATING FACTS.
Awwwww, whose mad because they died a lot?
At what point during my post did i say anything about dying? Or even mention difficulty? Stop being a twat.
Yeah, but the way you said it made it sound like you had a hard time.
Not hard, annoying.

My friends, have you forgotten about what Half-Life represents! This game marked a revolution in the fps genere. Sure compared to modern day greats this game is rather primitive but come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please reconsider your comments and ponder what I have said.
True. Many of the games that are currently better than HL2 are only better because they built on HL2. Not that I'm convinced that there are many games better than HL2.
Name one thing HL2 brought to the table... One.

Youre right about Half-life, but no (AAA) game is "built on" HL2.
They brought the Havok engine.
Deus Ex 2 and Thief: Deadly shadows both used havok before half-life.

ok, i have nothing against having an opinion, but you do realize that the revolver is a REVOLVER. it is suppose to have SIX shots and only SIX shots, i don't care what the hell that merchant from RE4 can do to the broken butterfly. BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, and BANG. that's it.
I'm pretty sure some revolvers can have eight shots.

So I guess it's more like BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG and BANG.

I think Half-Life 2 is the best game i've ever played.

Aren't opposing opinions just amazing? =P

The title of the thread leads me to believe that this is either a cry for attention, or your the type of person who thinks his opinion is the only valid one. Stating your opinions as fact won't get you very far here, if your intention wasn't to subtley troll then I apologize but it really seems that way.

Some people don't like it, some people do, what a massive surprise. There's been 8 pages of people discussing it and, amazingly enough, we've got absolutely nowhere.
