......Erm play Crysis. It's physics are better. It's graphics are 10 fold better. Half Life 2 looks really dated nowadays.
Crysis might look fine and while it's fun to wreck those trees, I really found the combat boring. Sure, the suit made it interesting, but the gunplay itself was uninspired and dull.

Well, Half-Life has aged a lot, but the facial animations are still close to, if not the best.

The choreography is undoubtedly the best ever. Coming close is only Assassin's Creed 2, but I think it's still below Source. Graphics are pretty good. Not superb, but good, even after 6 years. There's this thing that Valve has, though. They always do their maps in a way so it all looks extremely realistic and fitting, even though when you look up close it isn't top of the line. Only Valve and really really good modders can pull off such miracles.

I'm not too fond on the way everything in the game looks dirty, but that's just me.

What I found was that the physics in episode 2 were incredible. I mean in the parts where you first meet an advisor and it sucks the roof off, and similarly when the walkers destroy the buildings when you're defending the rocket at the end. The way the buildings practically exploded into a flurry of shrapnel looked far better than any other sequence I've seen in a game.

It had great graphics at the time, but heck, a video game doesn't have to have the "best graphics". A game with the "best graphics" requires an extremely powerful computer (*cough* Crysis *cough* *cough*), but Half Life 2 on the other hand has excellent visuals and yet can be played on an old computer and still retain its full effect and atmosphere.

No, the graphics are not the best. The best still belong to Crysis. HL2 ages well though, the graphics are perfectly acceptable even 6 years later.

However, Source physics are THE BEST. Every game I've played so far simply pales in comparison to Source physics.
I don't understand why everyone feels this way. HL2 uses the same 3rd party physics engine that dozens of other games use, Havok. It was probably the first and the physics were incredibly impressive at the time, but I don't see how it was any better than any other Havok-powered game. It still has the same problems/glitches and it still has the same limitations.

OT: While I greatly enjoyed HL2 at the time, I have never found myself that immersed within the game even when it was new. Personally, I still find games like the old Wing Commander more immersive to me than the HL series.

It used to be the best. I remember seeing the trailer and graphics were so awesome I couldn't help but stare in amazement, definitely was a revolutionary game.

The facial animations in particular are impressive to this day. And the game is awesome....the graphics are easily good enough to get immersed in, so I'm happy with that :)

They are not good nowerdays when you compare them to most games, but people who are expecting a 6 year old game to compare to brand new games are just a little silly. They have aged well in my opinion and they are still quite good and will probably be some of the best graphics in a game that I have played in my opinion.

I really liked the graphics of half life 2 because they felt so clean. In newer games a lot of filters are used and a lot of effect are on the screen and makes for a really clutterd feeling. Not so in Half life 2.

Graphics wise, it still looks pretty good considering its 6 years old now. But its physics are still superior to anything else I have seen

RDR's graphics are the best I've seen. They make me just want to camp out and watch the sun go down. HL2's were way ahead of their time but the Source engine as a whole looks pretty outdated now.

The Source Engine is outdated. No, HL2 doesn't have the best graphics. It doesn't look bad, and the engine does scale really well, but no. It isn't the best.
