Stop hyping it up, people. It's going to come out eventually, and it's going to be as good as or slightly worse than your favourite installment so far.
She actually left not too long after Portal 1 came out. Which was a shame, really.xXxJessicaxXx said:Yeah not a replacement but something that is taking time and resources away from them concentrating on the next Half Life.Vigormortis said:snip
I bet it's in development now they have finished Portal 2. I wouldn't be surprised if it's announced next year or the year after.
I know the co creator of Portal is now making a different game Quantum Conundrum (which looks awesome btw) So I have a feeling that they are now concentrating on a different product ie Half Life 3.
Oh, I know that the pictures are for a Team Fortress 2 reveal. That much is obvious. However, Valve has never been beyond combining hidden clues for several projects/reveals. Therefore, even though those number sequences are likely related to the photos, there is still the possibility they may pertain to something else. Maybe a release date, for example. After all, they have two big titles on the horizon. Dota 2 and CS:GO. Neither of which has a solid release date.Kopikatsu said:That's for something TF2-y. The pictures inside are of a Robot Heavy, Robot Demoman, looking through a gasmask and I don't know what the fourth is.Vigormortis said:My thoughts exactly. If Valve is starting a new ARG, it's more likely the first clue is the hidden easter eggs in the new TF2 map CP_Foundry. There are two hidden rooms reachable only by noclipping, and only existing on one side of an otherwise symmetrical map. One's hidden behind a door labeled "Top Secret" and is guarded by a soldier. Inside there is a sequence of numbers printed on the wall. "1961" with "13 22 13" directly below. And, above those numbers is the number "12" hidden behind a steel cross-beam near the ceiling.
This other stuff so far, aside from "maybe" the shirt seems a bit too pedestrian and sloppy on Valve's part.
Anyway, since Robin Walker said that Meet the Pyro is going to be from Pyro's perspective, the secret thing on cp_Foundry is probably for Raid Mode and/or Meet the Pyro.
Sorry, had to edit this begging bit. What I infer happens after the ending is that they bury Alx's father and live on the edge of civilization, instead of contining to fight the Combine since its 2 of them vs 1000000s of them. Is there any real reason to continue where that left off? Because I'm sure most fans want to see Gordon and Alx kicking ass once again. I'd love to see a new hero step up to the plate.ToastiestZombie said:That argument makes no sense. Half Life fans need a sequel because they want to know what happened after the end of episode 2. The only reason they might be naming it Half Life 3 is because they aren't doing the episodic model anymore, and the next half life will probably be as long or longer than half life 2. So yes, half life does need to get a sequel, which will coincidently make it a trilogy.Aprilgold said:Ah, a valve time joke ay? Remember when the TF2 team said they were going to release something big in a week and it took them 1 week to do it. Or when Portal 2 had a release date and was released then. Exactly, Valve is very good on keeping firm dates, but not so good when this could all be fanboy work.Rushin said:Its simple we are getting half life 3 in 2019. Which is next week in valve time
I stopped caring about Half Life 3 like I did with Duke Nukem Forever, and the reason I don't care is because Half Life doesn't NEED to be a trilogy.
They are officially in the same universe - but Portal takes place long after the events of Half-Life.TheMadDoctorsCat said:Personally I can't think of anything dumber than merging the worlds of "Portal" and "Half-Life". To say they're different in tone, content, just about everything really... that would be like saying that the sea bed is different to outer space. Beyond them both being first-person games involving guns that revolve around unusual physics, I don't see any kind of a comparison between the two.
I guess Valve have been doing this a lot longer than I have, but really... if the Portal connection is there (other than what Jessica said regarding Portal being the unofficial sequel to HL2 Ep 2), it seems like a horrible idea to me. What's next? Does the TF2 Heavy Weapons Guy make a cameo appearance?
I think you may of forgot about the Borealis. Gordon and Alyx now have to go destroy it before the combine so they can't use it to open a portal to the combine homeworld to send much bigger and deadlier things to Earth to basically kill everything. There is a lot of need for a sequel. Also, you cannot have a half life game without Gordon, since he is the only person left on Earth who can use the HEV suit and he had been sent to City 17 by the Gman to stop the combine.Aprilgold said:Sorry, had to edit this begging bit. Yup I do know it took six years to develop and release half-life 2. Half-life 2 was an entire game, it had to run on an entirely new engine, have a better story and game play than the original half-life and it succeeded at that. Hell in that time they made Steam and that revolutionized the way we play games today!Beryl77 said:Do you know that they did the same thing with Half-Life 2? It took them six years to release it and during four of those years they didn't say anything about it, just like now. Half-Life 2 still had a huge impact on the gaming world, so why not hl3?6SteW6 said:Man it's pretty depressing that I feel nothing at all over this info. I was the biggest half-life nerd since the first game. After episode 2 I was chomping at the bit to get ep3 and see how it all concluded, but after 4-5 years and all we have is a morsel of info I am way beyond caring how it ends.
I was cool with Valve taking their time to perfect games, but giving us nothing after this long is just plain unacceptable. It seems Valve would rather not release Ep3 or half-life 3 and instead make portal sequels and team fortress 2 hats.
Screw you Valve.
Also, some people have this idea that Valve should only make Half-Life games. It's entierly normal that they want to try new and different things. So maybe they put hl on the back burner, that doesn't mean that they don't care.
They will eventually talk about Half-Life and they will eventually release it and there are some things happening which suggest that it will be soon.
