My friends, I have not made many posts but after filtering some other threads I have found that many people have forgotten about the glorius days of Half-Life.

People seem to find that Half-Life is an inferior game compared to the modern day fps, such as Halo. But I believe that they have forgotten that modern day games were built upon this series.

Your thoughts and comments are much appreciated.
Dude there is like 3 threads on half life every day on the Escapist. You been under a rock ehhh?
Nah, he's new, cut him some slack.

Lol I wouldn't be surprised if people had forgotten Half Life 2 let alone 1.

Valve are running their machines at full snail and I doubt Half Life 2:Episode 3 is even in the works yet :(

Thought it's true that when some people hear Half Life they instantly think of Half Life 2, many others have played the original in it's heyday. It certainly is not forgotten, and I am one of the chosen who will remember it's name and cherish it. Even the graphics are okay to play with, but that might just be sentimental value.

I thought the original Half Life SUCKED. (That's right, SUCKED!) It can be forgotten for all I care.

But on the other hand, I LOVED HL2 and the episodes. Other game companies can learn a lot from Valve.
I would say this is a dating issue. If played for the first time recently I would say it could seem sparse but the foundations are there.

What didn't you like about Half-Life?
I'm not trying to change your mind, I'm just curious.

I felt the story was a little lame and unfinished. I didn't like the weapons. There were some interesting ones that I didn't get to use much since there was no ammo to be found when it counted. I hated the controls. (It had that "walking on ice" feel to it) Finally, there were other things too that I just can't put my finger on.

I think I see what you mean about the 'walking on ice' thing. Did you play this on a PC? I found the console versions unplayable.

We've talked about this a lot, at least I know I have. It's true, people don't acknowledge that Half-Life was the basis for most modern developments in the FPS series, but if they are really interested, they can play Black Mesa Source [http://www.blackmesasource.com/] when it comes out, and they'll get their history lesson with a teaspoon of modern gfx to soothe the eyes.
thank you for showing me this, I honestly can't thank you enough.

How about Wolfenstein 3D? How about Blake Stone? How about Blood? Strife? Heretic? Hexen? Redneck Rampage? Shadow Warrior? SkyNET?

Have people forgotten?

Yeah and Half-Life was based on Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein 3d. Everything was based on something. I'm a pretty big fan of Half-Life, but you don't see me making threads because people are talking about video games that were made later without noting the effect that my favorite game had on it.

Ah. SkyNET. It's been ages since I played that. It was pretty cool. I had a lot of fun playing multi player in the second game. I liked Bethesda back then.

Also, I was pretty close to buying Outlaws today. The price tag was a bit hefty for my taste sadly.

Descent. Ok, maybe not in the same stable as Doom and the like, but it's one of those games I recall playing alongside titles like Heretic and Hexen back in the old days. Or the original Civilisation, but as that's not an FPS....:)

Let's not be hasty.

What's his name? Eli Vance seemed to know something about him. You know, before...

That Advisor ate his brains.

Why do you think he died? Why did you think that Dr. Breen died? They all knew about the G-Man!
