Bioshocks theme and storyline were both excellent. It's a shame that most new gamers have never heard of it
New gamers? Like a few months new? Bioshock is not a old game.
It is on the 360, it was one of the first releases. Im talking about the 360 version. I know it came out on the PS3 recently, a few months ago if I'm not mistaken. Sorry about the confusion, my fault
the xbox bioshock is still not "old".
I don't mean old like that. What I mean is, it came out before alot of new 360 owners had a console, and it's not sold in stores, thus, they have never heard of it, except through friends, and maybe used game shops

I like Half Life I guess
I just really, really, really hate the overhyping it's getting. It doesn't deserve to be overhyped and it's really hypocritical the way people say:
"Halo is so overhyped, people who overhype it are stupid!"
Then follow up with:
"Half Life is amazing, divine, godly, the best game EVAR... there is nothing wrong with it at all!"

Call me crazy, but I don't care for the Half-Life series.
I just didn't care for it's brand of gun-play. I loved the physics, that was my favorite part of the game, but I just didn't like the story or the characters. It felt very repetitive to me, and I put it down half-way through half-life 2 episode 2. Any thoughts?
No sympathy here. There simply aren't any better FPSs around. Perhaps it doesn't have enough of Tom Clancy's name on the box for you?
You better not be disrespecting my copy of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. You wouldn't like it when it's angry.

I've been wanting to get into the HL series for quite a while, but I'm rather opposed to PC gaming. I am planning to pick up the Xbox Half-Life 2, though.

Still, it'll have to be pretty good to beat out the likes of Black, Halo 2, Project Snowblind, TS: Future Perfect and Timesplitters 2.

I know what you mean, but were probably in the wrong genre if were looking for good stories.
I just hope for more shooters that can delve into a theme like Bio-shock
Halflife and Halflife 2 are great games, but I don't think anyone can call them "deep". They follow a very basic "War of the Worlds" premise and the story is pretty thin, mostly just following Gordons rather inexplicable and unbelievable predicaments and the epic ways he gets out of them. Think of it like a James Bond movie without the sexy ladies. Or a protagonist that talks.

I suppose I didn't really mean Splinter Cell -> I was talking more about Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six.

Anywho, why would you be opposed to PC gaming? Timesplitters 2 is easily my favourite console FPS, as I only play console FPS for the splitscreen, but, looking at legacy, popularity, reviews, sales etc, Half Life as a series beats all the games you mentioned. Halo 2 may come close on sales.

Half Life 2 didn't do it for me nearly as well as Half Life 1. Don't get me wrong... 2 was good, but it lacked quite a few things that 1 had that the Zero-point Energy Field Manipulator, as awesome as it was, just couldn't make up for.

1. Better story. 2's story was interesting. I'll give it that, but the whole "aliens have taken over the earth and you are part of the resistance" thing seems to be turning what would normally be a blast into a chore.

2. Better AI. Half Life is over a decade old now, and still boasts some of the best AI (or some damn clever sequences that pass as good AI) that I've seen in the history of gaming.

3. Better bosses... I'll refrain from saying "since 2 had no bosses" since there was that helicopter you had to kill 2 or 3 times *sigh* and the giant ant-lion or "ant-lions" (two of the same boss again *sigh*) that went down with a few radiators and cider blocks to the face. 1 was riddled with mini bosses such as the giant flame thrower arm guy, helicopter >_>, spider thing, and goddamn ninjas.

4. Zazz. Where Half Life 1 was jam packed with zazz, 2 was painfully lacking in zazz... I guess what I'm saying is; 2 could afford to be zazzed up a bit. It needed more zazz.

Somehow HL made me feel extremely epic. Throughout a lot of the game like the chase scenes, running to and from nearly-invincible helicopters... it was very immersive for me.

I loved it.

Still haven't been able to beat the end strider battle in episode 2 :/
That's the way to play it. Just rush and never stop for anything. Kill enemies here and there, and just keep running. I hate it when people stop and overanalyze everything and ***** how they can't hit an enemy a mile away just because they're scared of rushing. You have health and armor for a reason. Those helicopters are hard to hit for a reason. Because usually you're not meant to destroy them until a specific scene and that's pretty easy to see.

Those parts where you have to bunker up and defend against endless hordes of enemies are an atmosphere killer though. Way to go Valve. I don't recall them in HL1 and it was an amazing game, though HL2 has a shitload of them. And it made it a bit less fun.

Anyway, HL2 is mostly a sequel. If you haven't played HL1 and don't like it, then it's usually not the game for you.

Bio Shock was trash, System Shock is king.

But, anyway... Half-Life 2 is an enjoyable shooting experience, my only real complaints being:
Sprint and your flashlight are connected, how? Why can't I see my body when I look down?

Uh oh.

Right.

So you're suggesting that *any* of his mentioned games (TS2, TS3, Halo 2, Black and Project Snowblind) beat Half Life on either sales or average reviews, the two most objective indicators we've got? No. Hell, Half Life comes out as the highest selling FPS ever, on *any* console (with 9.3 million -> 8 mil for Halo 2,3 and Goldeneye). It's also the highest average reviewed, on 96, drawing with Half Life 2 and Bioshock. There's some objective ways of looking at it.

Further, Half Life is probably the most modded game ever -> Counter Strike is the most popular online game of all time -> 4 million sales of the stand alone game (even though you could get it free), and that figure excludes Steam.

Frankly though, I'm a stupid Valve boy. Don't back up your statements *too* much.
