I still get the impression that people who actually like Halo 3 have never played another shooter in their lives. When I play shooters on my PC, for example, I get to pick whatever server I want, filter out gametypes and maps that I don't like, and install all kinds of cool mods that extend the lifespan of my games by months or more. I have a large of field of view, a framerate that actually climbs above 30, and mouse to aim with, and I don't even have to pay extra to play multiplayer! So someone explain to me what Halo brings to the table, considering it is totally outclassed by TF2 according to any technical measurement you care to apply?
I've played shooters since Wolfenstein. (The 16-colour version.) When I play shooters on the PC, I keep finding racks and racks of servers playing the exact same map with infinitesimal variations of either Deathmatch or CTF so filters only find those or high-ping servers, run into aimbots and ammomods and wallhacks, get no peripheral vision on my 4:3 aspect ratio monitor, framerates that wander between 50 and 10, and latency that makes mouse aiming moot.

Halo 3 has 14 maps and each map supports two or more gametypes. The Matchmaking system hoppers mix things up to keep things from getting stale, and user created gametypes get added once proved popular. (Rocket Race, for instance.) Maybe it doesn't have mods, but it doesn't have hacks either. The framerate may not get any better than 30, but it doesn't drop below that either.

The balances it strikes aren't to everyone's tastes, but that doesn't mean Halo is "just for noobs."
