I want to blame myself for not researching, but the thought of what they did never crossed my mind. Why would it? I've never seen it before on any other game. Games with more content don't even pull this shit, but enough jibber jabber. They gave me a second disc, yet it still wants me to install the multiplayer. I thought that was the purpose for the second disc, but it wasn't. I don't get it.Why would they do this? Mind you I have a 4gb HD (not by choice).

I recall a different Halo title having a second disc but you could choose to disc swap when selecting the multiplayer option or install it and it would launch immediately from the main menu. It's also been shown before that the game can tell your console to not go back to the dashboard when you eject the disc.

Yeah, this is beyond silly.

Delete some stuff for space?

Look, it's not the developers fault your HDD is of minimal size. I guess you could make the arguement that it might be Microsoft's for making some default HDD's so small, but ultimately, you have chosen not to evolve with 'the times'. For quite some time now console video games have started to require the mandatory install, at some point it should've clued in that you might need to upgrade.

Uh, what? Are you complaining that the multiplayer is on a disc that you have to install? If you're wondering why the devs decided it was a good idea, it was so that the game would look its best. Common complaints about the previous two Halo games were that the graphical quality was too low for the current generation. The install was to make it so people didn't have to switch between discs in order to access the different modes, while getting the most out of the graphical hardware. And from a developer's perspective, it's assumed that if you were playing a big budget release like Halo, you had at least a Hard drive that actually had some capacity. Sorry to break it to you, but you're in the minority that the devs couldn't cater to. It was like with Rareware and Perfect Dark all those years ago, where you had to get the expansion pack to get the most out of the experience.

That reminds me, Halo 3 and up don't appear to recognize my hard drive or removable storage such as a USB stick on an Xbox 360 Elite when using Theater Mode. However, it reads the installed content on the disc from my USB stick.

Aren't these simple problems? Not that installing from disc is a terrible thing but the fact that I could get away with disc swapping before without being forced... I don't know. I'm really just overall annoyed by these simple "problems".

We all wish that everything fit on one disc. If I had the option to install the multiplayer for AC3 instead of swapping discs, I would for convenience purposes.

Are you saying that the multiplayer disc doesn't work until you install the content?
It's a mandatory install. DVD's aren't good enough to get decent quality textures from on the fly, it's why most console games have textures that are abysmal, and are hidden by stupid amounts of bloom.

Good on 343.

I prefer it this way. I will be on Halo for a while and don't want to keep swapping discs. Also don't you have to install EVERY PC game? I don't see how changing platform is going to help here.

Get a decent-sized USB-stick, plug it in your xbox, let it convert it and do it's thing and boom: Extra space.
I have the 4gb too. Since then I've picked up some cheap-o 8gb USB memory sticks and, well, they work just fine.

It is still stupid that it's a mandatory install but, there's an option atleast that doesn't involve getting a new xbox.

That seems completely ridiculous to give up on console gaming because 1 game has a second disc to it. It isn't like this has been done before ever.

you could make space for it or you could simply plug a USB drive in and install it on there if space is a problem. that or buy a new hard drive. also it is you're fault you didn't do any research into you're purchase. not 343's.

I won't go so far as to say that I'll never buy another console game over it, but if only so that the OP isn't standing alone, I'll say that I too was pretty annoyed that the multiplayer had to be installed.

It's not that I mind deleting crap to make room for it......but everything I had to decide between deleting was with games that I liked more than Halo. And to be honest, I'm already starting to regret deleting some of it, considering all my friends playing Halo now will be playing BOPs 2 in the near future and likely won't be touching Halo again for a long time.

So I guess I'm the only one that understands this guy's frustrations, even though I have a spacious 320GB HD for my 360. Not everyone is as privileged as some of you folks and have had the same, older 360s with only 4-20 gigs of space for years now. Popping in the disc and being told an install is REQUIRED is inexcusable for a console game this generation, and it's disgusting that Microsoft and 343 did very little to put this information out to people especially when a brand like Halo is going to attract so many casual gamers that either don't have the space or have already filled the majority of their hard drive with a handful of other XBLA titles.

An install to avoid disc swapping is fine, but it shouldn't be mandatory.

Uh...is this really something making a thread over?
Well, it raises awareness that you need 8GB of HD space to play the MP. I didn't know til I saw someone mention it on Twitter yesterday, so I had to clear a good chunk of shit out just to make room for it. :p
