Halo I do like, generally because it does have an alright story that I actually care about, is a generally well-made game, and has the best multiplayer of ANTHING on the xbox, imo.

I can see nothing good about recent CoD games, especially CoDBlOps, that was painful.

Seriously, every time I see some self-assured forum user pull up the generic 'bland and boring FPS shooter' line, I die a little inside. Have you seen how colourful and vibrant the Halo games are?
Though I don't hold that opinion of Halo, you do realize that they're not talking about the graphics, right?

I'm sick of it. I just read a thread about overrated games that you haven't played and probably hate, and within 4 posts CoD and Halo were up. I'd say a majority of the posts afterward were "Halo/CoD because it had boring environments/characters/bad plot/generic gameplay...but I never played it but it sucks ass."

People, Halo 2 was the first FPS I ever got into. It's how I spent my weekends and summers with my friends: playing a game that we thought was fun. I know I've had many fun moments with the Halo games, and I doubt I'm the only one. I don't really care for CoD all that much, but I have played it several times (and had fun) and I think the hate on it is as unfair as the hate on Halo. That's why I'm lumping the two together.

Here's what I want you to do: I want you to tell me things about CoD and Halo that you liked. I want to read them all. Characters, events in the story, fun moments you had playing it with your friends, the design of the vehicles or structures, anything that you liked from either series! Tell me!

And if someone talks about something that you didn't like, I'm sure that someone just made a CoD or Halo hate thread that you can post it on if you really need to get it off your chest. I know this is an easy target for fights or assholes to break out on, but I want to keep this thread happy.
Your opinion is different. If you are going to complain how other's opinion is different from yours and clashes together then please, go away.
Tell me, do you like Half life 2?

I've played Halo but just didn't see the appeal everybody seems to say is a godsend. In fact that's a view my friends and I share. We play it and feel it pretty fun to play now and again but none of us can see what made it so popular.

I can't, and won't deny that Halo is a fun game. It's probably the most frequent split screen game I play nowadays (albeit not with the regular rule set, we always play modified infection). The only issue I have with it is the enormous amounts of praise it gets. It's not an amazing game, it's just a fun game. Heck I probably have more fun playing Crash Team Racing on the Playstation than this. Does that mean that CTR is an amazing game, once again no, and especially not for this generation.

As for CoD... I've enjoyed playing it from time to time, but it's never been something I've gotten into. Definitely not worth buying each year's installments with just slightly improved (arguably) gameplay.

Please don't associate a well made game, such as halo(whether you like it or not you have to admit that).

To a piece of crap, new glitch discovered every week, pile of poo poo game that is CoD

You tell me how someone could be so psychotic as to enjoy losing. 7 years of FPS gaming and all I do is lose. I don't have fun and I never will, care to explain? FPS games are the worst kind of "fun" there is. It's only fun for about 5% of the community. The other 95% are stuck with some shitty ass team while they lose constantly and manage to worm out some single win which is supposed to magically make things fun again.

FPS games are about as much fun as getting shot. I gag every time someone even mentions playing multiplayer and I sure as hell will never go back. I'm so sick of every time I try and play it's just loss after loss. YOU prove to me that multiplayer based games are fun and I'll go buy a pair of skates because clearly Hell has frozen over.
Well, let me start off by saying that I have never played CoD online. The last time I played it with friends I was very drunk and was somehow able to pull off a few wins, but that's not much in terms of experience. When it comes to Halo on XBL I suck--SUCK at it. I played online as much as I could for Reach and endured loss after loss after loss myself. Did I blame the graphics? Yup. Did I blame the physics? Yup. Did I blame the gameplay not being identical to 3? Definitely. But I knew that there were people out there with a much better sense of the game than I had, and that was the only real reason. The multiplayer matchmaking made me furious, so I just stopped playing it. I still did firefight like crazy. Sometimes I did it with other people, and when they were being annoying or crappy I would disconnect-reconnect-resume with them gone and enjoyed the game all by my happy lonesome.

7 years of FPS gaming and that is the consistent result? Wow, you are dedicated! Fast paced multiplayer gaming is something I've never really been able to get into, so I'm surprised I played Reach online at all (wait, no, that was just to increase rank). But I am not going to try to convince that multiplayer FPS is fun because I don't think it's fun. I love the Halo series because I genuinely like the campaigns. And dicking around with friends is fun.

halo was my first and is still one of my favorite game series ever (except fuck reach with its grenade and armour abilities), and in the first halo it never loses its touch to kill all the marines (and in coop eachother) then park both the warthogs on top of the grenades and throw a grenade and watch the warthogs go off in opposite directions for like a kilometer

and cods campaigns were good but the only online that was good was cod5 for a little bit, and modernwarfare 1

edit: on the level: the silent cartographer, im pleased i still remember the name for that

I thought CoD 4's campaign was awesome, and the ones in World at War and Modern Warfare 2 were pretty good too.

Halo reinvented a genre. Some people may say that it wasn't for the better, but they decided to approach FPS in a new way, and now it's become the mainstream.

I love both games, but I do think that Half Life 2 is a better game than Halo...umm I don't know if there is a specific Halo game I should be comparing it to. Half Life 2 has better dialogue and the only environments I've ever seen that I felt like I was actually in them. Halo is a fun, colorful, actiony sort of space Sci fi FPS and Half Life 2 is a more intelligent, realistic (environments) FPS with a great Eastern European vibe to it all.

Not to butt in to the conversation but I'd take Halo's campaign, multiplayer, or anything over Half Life's anyday.

I find them pretty similar too. They both have deep stories that are hard to get into. I for one forced myself through HL2 and dropped episode 1 halfway through from boredom. The physics puzzles were a nice change of pace but the thing I found pissed me off the most from a gameplay standpoint was the level design. Way too often was the correct path too unclear and it was too easy to get disoriented.

Halo can be fun if you make your own fun with it. Doing a standard run-through of the campaign, it's nothing spectacular. Good, but not great. All of the modes, however, are catalysts for fun ideas.

CoD just kinda sucks in every way, if you ask me. Black Ops finally introduced bots back into mainstream FPSs, and that's about all it had going for it.

Halo is just a fun game, which is why i think it became very popular to begin with. The sheer variety and fun of custom games in Halo is immense, you can just do so much with it, it's an awesome game.

CoD has its moments, i particularly like single player and Zombies, zombies is great. Not a fan of the multiplayer...

Good for you, but I still hate the fuck out of the obsession with realism they inspire.
Your're kiding me right? Halo has players jumping meters into the air, it takes a ton of bullets to bring down another player, and just about everything about it revolves around non realism. To be specific: look at the human guns, they don't look like any gun that exists today and they are varied to serve a simple purpose: this gun is automatic, this gun is semi automatic, this gun is a rocket luancher. See what I'm getting at? Super powerful space marine? Those don't exist in real life, neither do aliens, or spaceships, or plasma weapons, or basically everything else in the game.

However if your talking about CoD then I'm with you on that 100% (although it's just supposed to be fun)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that you are entitled to your own opinion and I'm not trying to get you to admit Halo is good becuase everyone has different likes and dislikes. Agree to disagree right?
I hate Halo for its incredibly fucking boring gameplay, plot, and characters.

Regarding the latter two, I'm bothered that they don't exist. In Just Cause 2 it's perfectly alright because the game is fucking crazy and awesome and not a macho quasifascist shitpile with pretensions to complexity. Halo wastes shitloads of time on cutscenes which could easily be filled with repetitive gameplay.

The little detail about Halo 2 being your first fave makes your judgment questionable. A general rule i have is that you should never review your oldest favorite, nostalgia almost always blinds you to the games faults. It's why i never talk about Digimon World 3.

Anyway, i have played quite literally ALL HALO TITLES. Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Wars, Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach. Take it from me, none of the numbers with numerals in them were the game at it's highest. Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo: Reach were the high points because they had the better campaigns and while Combat Evolved pretty much introduced the regenerating health mechanic, Reach was the game at it's absolute peak, one the upcoming 343 Studios will flat out be unable to replicate because at this stage, all they're doing is cashing in on a completed franchise with unnecessary sequels.

And the last thing you want me to do is judge them gameplay wise. In exchange for dual wielding and hijacking we got no interesting new vehicles, weapons were thrown through the ringer somewhat since ammo was too scarce for the Carbine and Battle Rifle and the SMG was pure shit on higher difficulties. When you reach Halo 3, you get the Brutes, the most laughable excuse for a hostile in any Halo game because they rarely hit you. ODST? Even worse. Halo: Reach had an overhaul that brought all hostiles to their peak, made them feel truly alien, and there were more opportunities to remind you that the Grunts breath a flammable gas.

As for CoD, Modern Warfare was good. Modern Warfare 2 introduced bugger all as far as mechanics went, ruined a lot of the immersion and impact the old game had, and the controversy element had the air of trying too hard to draw attention. And Black Ops? That is a fucking retarded joke with a pathetic mess for a story and the torture scenes. Call of Duty was at it's peak at 4, subsequent titles just stagnate the franchise.

As for the little "Are they fun" detail...
...no. Halo 3: ODST was stupid, so was Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops. I haven't played World at War and don't plan to, and i wholeheartedly believe that the Halo franchise died on a high note and that 343 Studios will simply let people cue up to rape the corpse.
But to be fair... at least they're not cover based. The Battlefield and Killzone franchises make Halo 3: ODST look like fucking Painkiller.

Okay, 9/10 people that talk about these games are talking about multiplayer. I agree that the campaign can be fun, and I'm all for co-op. It just ticks me off when people talk about how fun multiplayer is, though I've never had any fun, and I tell them to show me why it's fun, and they never seem to do so.
