I know everyone has a hate on for Halo, but it has to have some good qualities. Firstly, it should not be confused with a shooter. Sure, you shoot guns and sich, but Halo 3 really is only a sports game with guns. Say what you will, but what other game lets 4 people on the same console play with or against each other, in games with 20+ other people? No game that I know of. I personally stopped buying anything after Halo 3, because it just seemed like they were trying to squeeze every last penny out of me. Hopefully people will stop shelling out the cash, and Bungie will be forced to stop beating the dead horse that Halo has become.

Halo series should have ended with Halo 3. We were supposed to "Finnish the Fight" with Halo 3. So the big question is, WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T WE?

This thread is so full of "I didn't read the thread, but I posted anyway," it's ridiculous. One particular poster seems oblivious to the topic at hand...

OT: I'm very glad to see Bungie go before it milks Halo. Microsoft has already shown that they are willing to release garbage that simply has the name "Halo" on it (Halo Wars) whether or not Bungie has had a hand in it. I've been with Halo from the very start and I've always closely followed the development. Bungie has always been about quality, and it's sad to see them taken advantage of sometimes. I specifically remember a featurette in Halo 2 that showed how they had so much they wanted to do with it but they had to meet a deadline, and I for one would have gladly waited a few more months. I simply don't think 343 will put as much heart into it as Bungie has, and any sequels will feel estranged from the universe. In my mind, Canon Halo is within the five games made by Bungie and nowhere else. Sort of like how the Star Wars EU is considered non-canon by a lot of fans.

We did. But Bungie had a pet project ODST that was accidentally turned into a "full" game, and then they wanted to do a prequel. I wouldn't exactly say they've over-stepped their boundaries with making two games that take place before the end of Halo 3.

I'm definitely glad it's officially ending, with Bungie, on it's own terms. If they had just kept making more and more Halos until nobody bought them anymore, it would feel like a cashcow. Granted, i'm aware Microsoft will be the ones to milk it, but to see Bungie say they've had enough and want to move on, that's good for them and i respect them for that.

And i'm glad they are going back and giving us a full fledged game about how the whole trilogy started. I know there were books on it, but...meh. Halo is a game, i'll play the games. Plus, it shows they put a lot of effort into their new engine, updating every single weapon with a new look and feel, and everything about it just looks like they really loved what they were making.

Plus, c'mon...it's got jetpacks.

It started the whole regenerating health trend.

If it does end, I'll be glad to see it go.

One, it is ending. Two, the anti-health regen campaign is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. People seem to act as though there is a substantial amount of health to be regained - as though the health bar from Halo: CE is still around and regenerates instead of using a health pack. If you haven't noticed, your shield is tiny and can take very little abuse before letting you become exposed to the untamed elements of plasma and lead. In fact, on Legendary, sniper shots kill you in one hit regardless of your shield (which makes particular levels very frustrating...). Some games handle regenerating health with particular style. Mass Effect 2 is the best example.

Or maybe I'm being presumptuous and you just don't like that method and prefer having more health which needs refilling, in which case your malice for the Halo series is slightly disturbing.

I've played 1, 2, and 3. Halo CE was the only one I ever got into, oh nostalgia and the fun lan parties.
QFT. I still play it.

It's nice to see that a big developer will be able to make a new IP on multiple platforms.
Same. Nothing like finding a good team CTF on Blood gulch. Anyone else happy that they're giving Halo PC players something in Reach?
Yep, but they're not giving it to people who buy it now, though. If you still play, look for a CTF server called Zumbonia.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't Halo, but CoD that started this, they just followed the trend.

I am quite glad to see Bungie move on and not dig themselves into a Halo-exclusive money-pit and try different creative directions.

As far the current Halo's, the first is the only one that I find to be a great title. It resolved itself with a bang, had excellent balance in the campaign gameplay (I never played a LAN party with it, although I imagine it has awesome multiplayer) and I could take it more seriously. The later two just lost me in many ways of interest for the story and general campaign design. That is not to say they did not contribute positively to Halo as a whole.

To me, it just seems that 2 and 3 are somehow *different* and lack the same polish and feel of unhampered creativity. If memory serves, Bungie wanted to do more with 2 but had to restart their project and hit a deadline set by MS, which hindered the final product. From the cliffhanger ending, a few graphical shortcomings here and there, the difference from the teaser shown of new Mombassa, and general changes that made it lose of the first game's charm, I felt it was the weakest.

I honestly wish though that Bungie's departure from Halo would allow the series to rest in peace with some dignity. I can only imagine what plans Microsoft has for Halo, but if Halo Wars is any indication, it could very well be tacking the Halo name onto anything that sticks. I would prefer something completely new then every now and again MS rides the Halo hype train to try and get sales. I think that a variety of titles that are actually worth playing is better than trying to convert the Halo Spartan/Master Chief into the Microsoft "Mario."

This is off topic, but I literally lol'd at seeing how long your post was compared to the short length of my post.

I kinda liked the series, it's fun to play with my friends.

And I liked Forge in 3. The creator in me went nuts for it.

Forge in Reach looks amazing! The creator in me splooged when I first learned more about it.

So, I was wondering if it was just me or is anyone else kind of happy to see Halo end as a series? I mean, Bungie (Who I think is kinda cool) can actually move on to create a new better series. I mean Halo had its moments, but seriously its kinda been needing to end for a while now. The series hadn't had anything really new introduced since Halo 2, and now Reach can allow the series to actually go out in what looks to be something of style.

Does anyone else agree with me here?
The Halo series is not ending, they've already confirmed that there will be another game centering around Master Chief that will not be developed by Bungie. And when it does eventually end, I will not be happy. I've had so many good times with the series, and I will not be happy to see it go.

Halo should have ended with 3. A trilogy is good, it gives you enough so that you are no starved for more, but you are not so sick of it that you can't stand the sight of it anymore. I didn't like ODST personally and I thought Wars was a needless addition, I will get Reach but only for the novellty of having the complete collection and I will NOT be getting anything other than standard.

Halo was once a great series 4 games ago, but now I am all Halo'd out and I can't say I'll be sasd to see the series die.
