halo has pretty much become call of duty.

Pistols only, no items, FINAL DESTINATION! So wait, because people use 2 weapons it is like CoD? I don't get it.

One way or another, lets hope Halo 4 takes Halo back to its roots. And by that I mean no armor abilities, good maps and a PC version.
Er. The PC version of the first Halo didn't come out until nearly two years after the original, the second game nearly took three, and the series hasn't been on the platform since. PC doesn't really have much to do with Halo's "roots".
Yeah, but, we did get PC versions. Even if the ports were 3 years late... Dude, I would kill for a PC version of Halo 3. That game was so much damn fun, but it could be even more fun on PC.

I guess you are right, it doesnt have anything to do with roots, but still.
Oh totally, the PC would be a great venue for it. People would be making custom maps, weapons, armor abilities, campaigns, and vanity pieces for it to this day, and for many more. It's a series ripe for user-created content.

But hey, who cares if the players are having any fun, right? I'd rather complain about how much bigger my swimming pool full of money would get for every person that pirated the thing.

Thats like complaining that people switch to their shotguns in close quarters in Gears 3, and that some people just play with their shotty at all times. Or that people use the akimbo FMG in MW3. All you are complaining about, is that people are using the strong long range weapons.
What do you use? Assault rifle and shotgun?
Unless you can think of another reason to validate the claim that Halo = CoD, then you have no position to stand on besides your hate of people that can out-range you. I complain that people use the custom 95 in MW3, but I still play the game; you just have to adapt.
Slightly related: in games that I've played ffa in, close range maps with a sword or shotgun are probably the most fun I have in that game.

Didn't the original Halo basically lead to the current state of the FPS genre? So... Halo helped lead CoD to where it is now, which then led Halo to become like CoD. So... does that make Halo like Halo? I am confused. >.>

You need to STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM
I agree. You need to HALT HALT HALT HALT HALT this nonsense right now.
Back on-topic, It was Call of Duty that decided to ape Halo's mechanics, not the other way around (though to be fair, Reach's armor abilities are similar to CoD's "Perks"). As for people gravitating towards powerful weapons/gear and certain maps, that happens all the time in lots of shooters. For example, lots of TF2 players use Tomislav/Sandvich/Gloves of Running Urgently as a Heavy and frequently vote for Dustbowl.

Well I don't really understand what you're saying at all, but for me Halo hasn't been worth a damn ever since they "fixed" the physics in 2, I want to have warthog crash derbys where the warthogs go flying 30 feet into the air every time you nick another warthog dammit!

Wait, so you're complaining that Halo is too much like Call of Duty and your solution is to buy a Call of Duty game? Derp

This making me nostalgic for when COD was about frantically bunny hopping with a submachinegun.

Dude yOu got a quadruple thread going on .

OT: well people try to copy what is sucessfull . Like you say buy MW3 and have fun with the game everyone is copying . Or play something that isn't a shooter .
Yep, that's right. Halo copied MW3. DEFINITELY. Modern Warfare 3 has been around since long before Halo was ever even dreamed of.
Bah , my fault for not elaborating properly. The first three halo games were the games everyone played online ( at least for consoles ) , the crown has ( argubly ) been passed on to ( read: taken by) CoD , in order to follow the trend halo started acting more like CoD than being true to halo. So halo reach ressembles more a CoD game than a Halo game . So he might as well Play MW3 than Halo reach , which is what OP was saying and i was agreeing with . Although granted my initial statement didn't make that clear .

I have always enjoyed playing Halo. But I have a pretty well defined cut-off point with the online segment.

Whenever a new game comes out, it draws in the less dedicated players and it takes a while for the "HARDCORE" to get their bearings. Usually I can actively enjoy a new Halo game online for 4-6 months before people find ways to ruin the gametypes I love and find the gametypes that are "ALL ABOUT SKILL".

I like crazy chaotic fun when I play Halo. Oddball, Juggernaut, etc. I loved the first rendition of Elite Slayer in Reach before the nade count was diminished and the Armor Lock was nerfed out. It was psychotic fun until the edits came. It was still fun, but not crazy great chaotic fun.

Bottom line, I get what your saying. I still would rather play Halo than CoD though, no matter what the gametype. Not that there is anything wrong with CoD mind you, I just prefer the sci-fi trappings to the more real world setting in CoD.

I see some use of the AR still and more use of the shotgun (personally I get a lot of use out of it, and I usually pick up the needler at some point).

Just so you know, the Call of Duty series existed well before the first Halo. I believe you're specifically thinking of the Modern Warfare series, which started out as a part of the Call of Duty series but has evolved to only carry the title "Call of Duty" for brand name recognition. [http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=24164]
But that's where you're wrong.
The first Halo game, Combat Evolved, was release waaaay back in 2001.
The first Call of Duty game, CoD1, was released in 2003.
So, unless you've forgotten about the first Halo, or you don't consider it a game because of no online multiplayer, then you've gotten your facts wrong somewhere along the way.

Now, back to the main topic:
OP, what on Earth are you thinking?
Halo and CoD are fundamentally different games.
CoD has all-the-way health regen. Halo has either no regen (Halo 1) or a tiny amount of regen (Reach), and Halo 2/3 didn't even have a health bar, just shields.
Halo has a multitude of vehicles, where CoD has none (can't really say that's a bad thing though, a vehicle in a CoD map might fuck everything up, and not in a good way)
I would post more, but someone else in the thread kinda beat me to every other point.

Oops, my bad. That's what I get for not checking my facts...

I absolutly count the first Halo as a game, it used to be my favorite. Online multiplayer is for chumps. :p
