Halo Hate: Explain?

Ok, so I never owned an Xbox, I had a PS2 so I missed out on all the love for Halo 1 and 2. I got a 360 Holiday 2007 and when Halo 3 was released, I got swept up in the hype, bought it, played it (never having played the previous ones) and really, really liked it. The AI was great, the weapons were new and exciting, the environments were interesting, combat was fantastic, the story was suitably epic if not entirely well explained, it was full-featured (forge etc..) and even the multiplayer held my interest for a little while.

Then, all over the internet, the halo hate cropped up. Maybe it had always been there and I just never noticed as it wasn't applicable to me, but there it was all the same. Halo now is held up rather often as the example is all that is wrong with gaming today ("Go back to Haloz!! being a commmon insult. Or: "This game isn't supposed to be f***ing Halo, moron").

I just don't get it, for all intents and purposes it's an extremely well designed, fun, balanced, bug-free game. So what's the deal? Can someone explain it to me?

It seems to me that everyone hates halo due to the f*tard 13 year olds that play it. However, it seems wrong to me to hold the douchebaggery of Xbox Live against a game that is otherwise solid. It doesn't diminish the rest of the game. Isn't Left 4 Dead plagued by the same a**holes? Why don't we through that game around as an insult? Just curious what your opinion is on the phenomenon.

This thread may have been done, I don't know, it isn't so much the game as the kids who play it online, annoying little ass holes they are, especially if they are better than you and on your team.

You can play L4D on PC - problem solved.
You can also play Halo III on the PC. For free, no paying for xbox live gold.

I figured there was a chance this thread was already created, but considering how $h1tty my work 'net connection is, i wasn't going to start searching around for it. If it isn't on the first page, it doesn't exsist.

Besides, ultimately, hasn't every question been asked?

If you want the forums to be overrun with re-asked questions and spam, keep thinking that...

This was more or less my experience with Devil May Cry 4, id never played the first 3 so when i played dmc4 i thought it was really good, but everyone was saying how repetitive it was and the same as the first 3.

Halo gets reamed in general because it is popular. It's the ongoing trend of popular non-conformity. I.E. disagreeing with popular opinion because it makes you appear edgy, cool, or smart. In most cases, it makes you look like a tool, but don't let that get out - there are whole businesses built around the concept *cough* Hot Topic *chough*

Glerken - I will. If you don't want it to exsist, don't respond to it. It will go away, and rather quickly in boards as active as these. I don't create threads very often anyway. The point being - in 90% of all new threads at some point someone says "We already did this" That's why i'm not concerned about it.

@Pedro:
I hate the fanboys as well, and the pandering reviews. Unfortunately, all we ever get these days is pandering reviews for pretty much any game. 95% of the time you can guess a game's review score before ever having played it due to the way review sites whack-off to every system-exclusive game anyway. That's why I love actionbutton.net (even if it never gets updated anymore). Their insanely long reviews actually do alot of in depth analysis and you never know what they're gonna say. Oh, and I like this site's reviews alot as well. Obviously :p

I'd like to postulate that maybe one of the reasons for the hate is the sheer number of inane threads about it. Seriously, I'm a halo fanboy, yet even I am fostering a hatred of the game now, simply because of troll threads like this.

i dunno, they ruined it slightly with halo 3, its that thing:

xbox promotes its user friendly online gaming
halo is released
every noob thinks they can camp and shoot, win and be the best ever and start insulting people

i still play with my Friends, but not much anymore, noone plays it, even for the new achievements, and some of em hunt those things
