I liked Halo. Didn't like Halo 2 so much. Haven't played Halo 3.

I didn't say I loved Halo. I just said I liked it. It was good.

I loved the first Halo and thought the story, action and level design was amazing. Than Halo 2 came out and that was ok but the story was quick and mushy. Than Halo 3 came out and it was shit. Bungie totally forgot this was meant to be a good story game but made it shorter and crappier; Just concentrated on the multiplayer which if you like listening to children bad mouthing abuse and racist taunts than you should throw the game into the nearest river.

it was good... then the little kid's started playing halo 2 and halo 3 was overated by the kid's
yea once it got out of the older guy/girl spectrum and it turned into southern white children ages 12 and under that have not even heard of the movie/show star trek.

sooo back on subject. Halo CE great game it got me hooked on fps. Story was good then it got to short on the third one, Halo CE had a steady difficulty curve which i liked unlike halo 3 where certain levels seem to be out of wack.

another note..... it has color unlike the more recent Gears of War 2 which is not very creative color wise.

[quote="Ridiculous. It's true that mouse control is more accurate and more dynamic than an analog stick, but it's not like a stick is impossible to aim with. In practice, the precision is determined far more by personal acclimation than hardware functionality. The ultimate god of console shooter skill will fumble embarrassingly if given PC controls, and vice versa.[/quote]

I must fight you on this one. I am primarily a PC gamer but use a Xbox360 controller for a vast number of my games. Part of Halo's success (and overall failure to make a ripple in the PC world) is credited to the fact that it was built for consoles and to be played using a controller. I never played completely through the story of all the Halo's but I've clocked in quite a few hours under each at friend's houses. You'll notice that the reticles in Halo (and this holds true for Gears of War as well) are fairly large. PC gamers without a doubt have and advantage in aim with mice. I guess to wrap this up, shooter ports tend not to do well because they were not built to be played in the way that they were originally intended.

I too think Halo is overrated. It is a fun game and there is no arguing with that. However it doesn't deserve the title of top shooter. Not when it's going against titles like Call of Duty 4. It was simply made to be played with a gamepad. Now I don't know about you but I'll play America's Army or Counter Strike with a mouse and keyboard over a gamepad any day.

You know why you keep hearing everybody saying halo is overrated? Because it is really very overrated.
Also I do complain about repetitive level design. In fact I make a point of that been the first thing I complain about. The first thing that struck me on the first level in that game upon curiosity led purchase is how bloody bleeding repetitive it is. The amount of copy pasted corridors is painful. The enemy's are boring, the parasites are a frigging joke, almost coming at you with the valve price tag hanging off embarrisingly. The story needs to exist more. The characters need to be something other macho metal muscle...Um- things. The vehicle sections lack fun. The weapons are horribly unsatisfying. The scenery is yawntastic, blocky ect. All the rooms look so identical I literally got badly lost on many MANY occasions. The music can hurt your ears, the whole "HALO" planet makes no sense-

I could go on for a good few hours. But the important thing I am trying to bring across in this argument is that halo deserves a bad reputation. I have, as always, closely examined both sides of the argument. I purchased halo with that very aim in mind. In fact I almost convinced myself it could not be as bad as I expected it to be. After all how wrong can the majority be? Very, very wrong. That is why bush got voted in, that and some crafty rigging.

But anyway I wouldn't want to derive from your fun with halo, but in comparison to other games with more inventive premises and better game play, level design ect halo is not good.

Also, there is an official PC port of Halo.
Halo 2 being one of the worst port in gaming history, I hope the "developers" responsible for it have been fed to a brontosaurus.

It is fantastic game but it is still overrated because everyone hyped it up to be an absolutely genius game which was perfect in pretty much every shape and form. Which is was not.

Hell its got a great multiplayer and the levels are usually quite well made and different

However I like a game with a good storyline and Halo is just missing that. Unfortunatly.

Just like Haze. Yes, it wasn't a Halo killer, but it wasn't absolutely awful like everyone said.
Just severely overhyped.

I liked your mario example. I don't understand people who are unable to use console controllers. It's not THAT hard, you put your thumb down, you move it in a circle. Many people here I've noticed are physically UNABLE to perform this task. Of course it's not as quick or precise as a mouse, but that means everyone is playing fair. Someone who doesn't have the financial freedom to buy a $60 razer gaming mouse will not get owned.

Anyway, Halo has been built from the ground up to be on a console. The focus is much less on aiming and more about movement, positioning, weapon choice, and to a certain extent, stealth. This is meant to be played with a controller, not a M&K

Halo: CE is my favorite halo. cool weapons cool foes cool places great multiplayer. But whats this about thumb sticks ruining shooters? so yeah aiming is more accurate with a mouse true and it's very responsive, still you can get the same results just by turning up sensitivity on your options screen. for the most part you can get better results in terms of control with a mouse "und" keyboard. But gears of war and other third person games start getting tricky with a mouse for camera control, so it's simpler to use a controller. or at least that how i feel.

Using a mouse isn't THAT hard, you move it around... And why would everyone playing with a mouse be suddendly unfair ?

I hated it, that's just my option though so don't mind me.
Why?
The repetitive level design, the weapon handling, never really got into the story, I mean, it was good for the first 30 minutes or so, but then it just became boring, for me at least. Halo 2 was pretty much the same imho. Maybe Halo 3 fixes all these problems, but I don't have a 360.

Wow, FINALLY... a well thought out and unbiased Halo thread.

Only played Halo 3, thought the shooting and graphics were well done but the game was somewhat ruined for me by too much backtracking and godawful signposting that left the player wondering where to go too often.

The soundtrack, however is stunning and one of the best in gaming, full stop.

Great game, and held it's own as far as having some of the best graphics on the console until it's sequel, which was lukewarm, Halo 3, I like the variety, forge mode was an excellent idea to put in in my opinion, it keeps variety in a game, which keeps them fun and flowing.

HOWEVER

Every game is good until it gets overran be a flock of 12 year old syndrome sheep, I say no more.

He never said that everyone playing on a mouse is unfair, however to add to that you could get people on laptpos playing without a mouse I guess. THat would be unfair

Yes (despite being very disappointed by the second one) because I'm curious to see the end of the story and because I'm a foolist idealist who still hopes that they learnt from their mistakes of the second game.
