As we all know, the Reach beta is out tomorrow.

I'm predicting a whole avalanche of new threads about it, so I said I'd start a general one where we can chat about our expectations, what we think of the gameplay vids, and tomorrow... what we think of the game.

Feel free to put your gamertags down too, so we can hook up and murder each-other silly. Mine's Miracleofsound.

Here's a vid Hutch put up. I'm liking it so far. It looks really fun, although it has to be said, the environments look very dull and bland. Maybe the other maps will be prettier.

Another random question for you all... I am pretty new to Halo online and want to know what people feel is the better control setup: Normal or Bumper Jumper?

Who's going to play it?

Do you think it'll be a MW2 beater?

Chat away, and don't forget to post your gamertag! :)

The video doesn't work for me, and it's a good move to have a general discussion thread so it doesn't clutter up the rest of the forum. Personally, I cannot wait for the beta, let alone the full product. Especially invasion, that looks really fun. Anyone else looking forward to invasion?

EDIT: I prefer the default setup, but apparenty the default setup for reach is more like bumper jumper, with melee on the right bumber and equipment on the left. We'll see once it's released.

The thing I liked about Bumper Jumper was that you could continue to aim as you jumped, not losing that split second where you have to move your thumb.

What's invasion? Is it a game mode?

I've got a key and am looking foreward to it. I think Bungie is going all out on this one. There are a bunch of original gameplay modes and unoriginal, yet fun, gameplay mechanics. And the environments are at least less bland than gritty brown shooters.

And I prefer bumper jumper. Simultaneous jump, rotate, and melee ftw!

I think that's why many people used bumper jumper, I just couldn't be bothered learning the controls all over again.

Invashion is a new gametype on a map called boneyard, the biggest map ever put in a halo game. It's 6v6 spartans vs elites with 3 parts to it. The main objective is for the elites to steal a data core from a decomishioned human ship, and the spartans have to try and stop them. The first part features no vehicles and 2 loadouts for each team. The elites have to capture one out of three territories to power down the defences guarding the area around the core within a four minute time limit. Once they get passed that, additional territories are added where you can call in weapon drops if you capture them. Then there are two territories for the elites to capture guarding the defences of the actual core. After that they must bring the core to a phantom parked outside. There is a 4 minute timer for each one, so if the spartan stop them in any one phase, they win the round. Additional loadouts and vehicles will appear as the game progresses.

Here's a link incased I missed anything.

That actually looks really fun.

Any tips for a Halo newbie? I tend to go negative in almost every game and I suck real bad(too much time spent on COD and Battlefield perhaps)

Well I'm not much for advice, but try to always have a headshot weapon with you (pistol,DMR,needle rifle) because they are very helpful. I'll let you figure out the rest. Iccidently, my XBL is Dark knifer if you feel like playing the beta sometime.

Bumper jumperis more efficient because you can jump and keep looking around at the same time - but it takes some getting used to.

Definitely hang back with the mid-rage headshot weapons and keep grenades to protect corners. Stick near cover to get your shields back easily, and watch the motion tracker. That's what I stick with in Halo 3 multiplayer and I tend to do alright. I have a fairly conservative playing style though.

However, Reach is significantly different in many ways. Or at least, the Beta is. So that advice might not be so helpful.

I'm really looking forward to it. I normally roll with the default controls, and will try to cope with these new controls.

Yeah the Needler is amazing... it actually feels a little overpowered to me but hey. I suck at headhshots but hopefully that will improve.

Definitely Bumper Jumper, and FactualSquirrel (caps don't matter).

I'll be trying it out tomorrow, although I don't expect anything amazing, just a bit of fun.

Wow! Those graphics look surprisingly clean! Not that Halo 3 or ODST were lacking, but those are significantly nicer looking.

I'll probably check this out. But I'm likely to suck pretty bad. It's been a while since I played Halo online.

But if you want to look good comparatively, gamertag Meganroo.

I'll have to check and see if my Halo buddies will be playing the beta.

I'm really apprehensive about how I'll deal with the new bullet spread system in regards to the pistol and DMR. I'm hoping I don't fall into a rythym for one particular range and then get too used to it to change my rate of fire.

I dunno, it looks alright. I'll probably end up buying it, as I could use another online shooter.

Is the DMR replacing the battle rifle?

I saw that spread system, it looks very tricky to master.
