I must stop playing Invasion mode... It's by far the most buggy game mode (mostly due to the spawn system), it's massively unbalanced (the Elites rarely win, and they almost never get positive K/D spreads) and the puny vehicles make me sad.

But I can't stop myself. What really annoys me is that Invasion Slayer is awesome, but no one ever wants to play it. It gave the proper feeling of a battlefield, with shifting objectives, weapons and vehicles being dropped in and properly chaotic melees.

I should just go back to Grab Bag and have a go at Overlook. But nooooo... I have to get addicted to the broken game mode.

IMO it is very well balanced. I haven't ever found one team winning more than the other, and every time I've had a losing streak (frustrating as it may be) it's been because my team was not as well coordinated as the enemy.

If playing with just one friend against a disorganised enemy, we've been able to run circles around them (especially on standard invasion).

The only issues I've found are, if it's lagging badly then yes, spawning does suffer. A lot. Plus it always has to split your party onto different teams if there's more than 2 of you. Very annoying.

Finally got to play it. Interesting experience, I enjoyed it far more than the other Halo games. The complaints about grenades and melee mechanics are a mixed bag for me. It's annoying, but people are far less inclined to devolve into charging and spraying bullets when spiking a grenade into the ground ahead of you can paste them so easily. I personally thought the tier system and power weapon/ vehicle spawning worked very well at curbing the associated bullshit, and the energy sword became far less broken.
Baaasically, Reach has some rough parts, but as far as I could see, they force players to think a little more about their strategy than they had to in the other Halo games, enough that I actually quite liked it.

Yeah the Elites do vary rarely end up winning; even when stacked with skilled players. It's highly addictive though and the spawn system isn't that bad providing you don't mind walking two minutes to get to your objective.

I feel Invasion is a bit unbalanced weapon wise. I mean at one point Spartans get snipers, which are a one hit headshot kill, the Needle Sniper (w/e it's called) can't do that, then there's also the fact that Elites spawn right in front of the Spartans, who can be aiming at the area before you have a chance to look up, not to mention they have a DMR at the start, and with 2 guys looking at you with fairly accurate aim, even evading won't help much. Other then that I've seen a team of Elites who all know what their doing get by just fine (by know what you're doing I mean don't run right by the Spartan spawn with the Reactor please. . . take the route around it so it's no SOOO easy for them.)

Also Spartans, when we get a tank, don't think a Smart Elite dou isn't waiting there for someone to bring it out. . .

Agreed. I've been able to win and lose as either team. Most of the time it boiled down to crappy teamates.

But it would be nice if the time to capture objectives was 2 minutes longer...

I've seen the Elites win plenty of times.

Airborne for me.

I can work that jetpack like a dream, and I love it. Plus its very helpful at escaping an enemy with a hammer/sword/shotgun/rockets.

I think the main problem for me was I forgot the Elites could dodge. Once I remembered to employ this tactic it really opens up the combat.

I love how meaty the guns are now; rather than tinny sounding. We had it cranking through the surround system and it sounded like a warzone.

ARMOUR LOCK IS GOD.
If used correctly.

Oh, and those worrying about the Melee's? Worry no more, Bungie are slowing them down a bit to give you the idea that melee's are to be tactical and sneaky, rather than spammed.
Try going into Bad Company 2 and only knifing. You won't get very far...

Yeah, Grenades are being nerfed too, but it's a hard decision for Bungie, they wan't them to be useful, but not overpowered. And it's exremely hard to get that when you have 10 year old kids crying to Bungie everytime the big ol' meanie hurts them with a 'nade.

My roommates played the Beta and said it felt the same to them but when I played it I felt it was different, improved even, over Halo 3 or ODST. I will not miss the equipment, well, maybe one or two, but not really. LOVE the abilities and having "classes" that don't affect things too much but let us specialize and adapt. I don't like that the sword is so, weakened? I mean, true, it was a powerful weapon before, but it's not like it was impossible to avoid/beat.

Also with the abilities like cloak, sprint, dodge, and guard, do you really need to be able to melee the sword away too?

What's next? Will we be able to punch shotgun blasts away too?

Yeah, I have 2. Armour lock for team games, I deploy it to help team mates escape and cover them with flags, it's also good when you are trying to return a flag, as the whole Armour Lock bar can return the flag up to halfway before running out. Very last - resort kind of move, can see it getting spammed alot.

And then, Active Camo, good for Free for All and Slayer, you can hide and assasinate, bad thing is that I can sort of tell where enemies are if they are using stalker, through the Radar Jammer, and before you say "Well duh, it jams your radar" I mean, I can pinpoint their exact location almost. So once people learn that, it will be hard to get by with Active Camo.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know when the Beta ends? I'm very interested in getting into it and playing the beta, but I probably won't order Halo ODST if it's over in like, three days or so.
Beta ends on the 19th of May.

Agreed. This is one of my biggest gripes about Invasion. I understand that perhaps Bungie's trying to cut down the game time so that it seems more accessible, but it's still too short, in my opinion. It hardly feels like an epic battle if doesn't even go for 10 minutes. There also aren't enough players. 6 on 6 is too few. It should be 8 on 8.

The biggest problem I've seen is that it will let you spawn on a team mate who's flying a Banshee. One hundred metres in the air. I've seen multiple players (myself included) commit 'suicide' by spawning in mid-air. Damn fall damage.

Okay, I was exaggerating a bit when I said it was massively unbalanced, but the Elites hardly ever get a good K/D ratio so the whole thing feels a bit futile when playing as them. Especially since the way the Spartans normally win is by pinning down the Core half way to the dropship and turning the area into a slaughterhouse. So overall it's not as bad as I suggested, but that last bit can be a real *****.

But still, I'm quite enjoying it. And not just because I got 44 kills and 3 deaths on a game of Invasion Slayer.

Personally, I enjoy the new additions like the equipement, and new weapons. My favorite piece of equipemnt has to be the dodge roll, it has gotten me out of a lot of sticky situations. My favorite new gun? Plasma Launcher. I picked this thing up and it was:6 HOMING PLASMA GRENADE!?!? OMGWTFBBQFTW! I also enjoy the assasinations, you can either knock them off the old way with just a quick butt-stroke or you can really rub it in their face with fully animated knife kill.

Things I don't like? All the other guns, I don't know what they changed but I feel like I'm shooting peas not bullets, I can never tell if my shots are having an affect or if my aim sucks. Also the new auto aim is a just plain wonky, it seems to choose the worst times to turn off, as an elite with a sword is rolliny up to impale my Spartan ass. Also grenades, in Halo 3 they were a great way to finish a long fight, or to give your self the edge right off the bat. In this? They're just instant death in ball, it's ridicoulous. To the point were I get killed before I even see the bastard.

How do you pinpoint the locations? Im an avid user of the camo and ive crawled through waves of spartans undetected, ive even had a guy walk into me and not notice. If theres a way to be detected, i really want to be able to avoid it.
